My webcam powers off because of the light.

Hello,
I can’t get my webcam to work! When I’m in a conference it doesn’t really shut off, but the webcam screen goes completely black :/ I really have to turn the room lights up very brightly or put a light right behind me!
So I don’t know if it has a "sleep" mode! Or if it detects a person’s presence thanks to the light ^^
It’s a webcam directly on my Toshiba laptop. It uses the software "camera assistant software"
