Hello everyone,
I've been a Linux user for a few years now, and after a brief stint with Fedora, I've decided to go back to Ubuntu, specifically MythUbuntu.
To make a long story short, I've tried installing several distributions such as:
- Ubuntu
- Mythbuntu
- Kubuntu
All of them get stuck at the same point --> after choosing the installation language, "preparing for installation" ... when I click "next," the installation "grinds away" and freezes on that same page.
I’ve tried several solutions such as:
- Image on optical media (DVD and CD) with various software.
- Image on USB stick with uNetBootin...
Nothing..
I tried partitioning my disk before the install --> Still stuck at the same point.
No error message, nothing.
I'm at my wit's end; I don't understand.
Please help me
Thank you.
Configuration: *Motherboard: Asus P5B-MX Wi-Fi-AP

Hello,
I had the same issue when trying to reinstall Ubuntu 12.04 from the same USB drive I used to install it. It drove me crazy after multiple attempts because I knew that this USB drive worked for this machine...
I solved the problem by DISCONNECTING THE ETHERNET CABLE CONNECTED TO THE NETWORK.
(If you are only using Wi-Fi, try unplugging it; I don't know if this happens with Wi-Fi as well)
Good luck!

A big thank you .... I was also stuck with the ethernet cable. The installation is back on Wi-Fi.
Hello
I have this problem myself and being a novice in computing, I don't understand your explanations. Could I have a step-by-step approach to solve my problem, please?
Thank you in advance and have a good evening.

Hello, have you tried a text-mode installation? One possible cause is an incompatibility with your graphics card during startup (see LILO BOOT).
I tried with an alternate version of Ubuntu, but apparently it was the CD that was corrupted, the installer couldn't retrieve the "login" and "passwd" from the CD..
But how could my graphics card block the installation at that specific moment and not before? On all the distributions I've tried?

Hi,
The problem is probably with your RAM, as Richard59 pointed out a bit earlier.

Software is like sex, it's better when it's free... ;-)
As for me, I'm a PC, Windows 7 wasn't my idea and I don't need it!

Hello
Same problem for me
History:
- yesterday installation without problem in dual with win
- uninstallation with a view to reinstalling on separate hard drive
- repair of the win mbr which was no longer working
- restarting the ubuntu installation
- same problem as mecdu35
So: the ram is not the cause, otherwise my first installation would have had the same problem
In your opinion, is it the mbr repair that is causing everything to crash?
Since doc.ubuntu.fr is offline and the install program downloads files, if it needs to download them from doc.ubuntu.fr that could be the cause of the blockage?
Looking forward to your opinions!
Best regards

I also faced this problem!... I solved it in an unorthodox way by formatting the hard drive with an OS that has nothing to do with it, like Windows 98, then with Linpus (which wipes everything) and by unplugging everything as soon as the installation starts!...
Then, Ubuntu installs without any issues!
