Hello,

My Adobe Reader X (10.0.1) can't open PDF files. I wanted to uninstall it to replace it with an earlier version, but an update on this program is in progress and it stays stuck at around 80%. I can't stop the update or remove the installed software because of the ongoing update. How can I stop the update?
Also, even if I uninstall Adobe Reader and replace it with an earlier version, I'm not sure I'll be able to read PDF files, as I already tried that two weeks ago. What could be the reason? Can you help me with this issue?

The operating system I am using is Windows XP - Service Pack 3.

Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

Go to Start, in the search field type msconfig, in the Startup tab disable Adobe Reader, etc...
    Reboot the computer.
I suggest uninstalling Adobe Reader and installing Foxit Reader instead, free for everyone:
    http://www.filehippo.com/download/file/197c73ef1f801304efc185a5acaddf2abe5c5ee368a0b227ae147a1e5dabf9bf/
    - Download and use CCleaner - Caution: during installation, you will be prompted to install Google Chrome <--- Uncheck - (https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/5647-ccleaner/):
    - Tools tab, click on Uninstall a program, click on Adobe Reader, click on Uninstall, etc...
    - Registry tab, click on Find errors, then click on Fix selected errors..., etc...,
    - Cleaner tab, click on Scan, then click on Clean,
    - close CCleaner and restart the computer,
    - Install Foxit Reader, ( Caution: during installation, uncheck the Foxit Toolbar, the Ask search engine, and the browser homepage on Foxit),
    - it is possible that the Ask search bar has still been installed, in this case, uninstall it by following the same procedure as uninstalling Adobe Reader,
    - then go to this address: https://languages.foxitsoftware.com, right-click on Download:lang_fr_fr.xml, save the link target to your desktop, then go to C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader and place the lang_fr_fr file there,
    - now open Foxit Reader, you will notice that it is in English, to change it to French, follow this procedure ---> click on Tools, click on Preferences, click on Languages, click on Choose custom language, click on French, then click on Ok.

Thank you for your response. I have successfully disabled Adobe Reader, and the update no longer appears in the taskbar, but now I cannot uninstall the software. It is stuck on "preparing to uninstall." What can I do?

      Thank you in advance for your reply;
