Edit a GIF with GIMP Solved

Question

Hello,
I’m trying to edit a GIF with GIMP. For this I insert images with a transparent background and merge them downward. But as a result I get a jagged image.
Does anyone know why? Any idea?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 4.0.1

Hello,

If it’s an animated gif, each layer represents an image of the animation...
You can vary the display duration by specifying it in the layer name.

If you modify an animated gif by adding layers, make sure the new layers are the same dimensions as the image.

And, of course, "Save as Animation"...

Well... I opened your GIF with Gimp...

If what you want to do is add the question mark, you should do it on every frame of the animation...

So, create a layer with the question mark, duplicate it above each frame of the animation, and merge it each time with the frames of the animation...

I’ve already tried to merge it, but that’s exactly why it gives me a choppy gif. Try it to see for yourself. Also, it’s true that I didn’t have an exclamation mark on all the images, but that was because I intended to shorten the gif, remove some frames. I preferred to see what it looked like before cutting and realized it was too long or too short.
Anyway, please try merging the layers and tell me if you get a correct gif.

Benwi, that's exactly what I just did after fetching an identical GIF in good condition and apparently that doesn't pose a problem, no more than with the other GIFs. Okay well then I’ll try again, but I don’t understand—it's exactly what I did: "create a new layer." I created it, then duplicated and moved it so it would follow the motion. And finally I did "merge downward" on each of the exclamation points.
PS: Luke where did you find your GIF "in good condition"?

You make a single exclamation point or a single text on a single layer, you duplicate that layer as needed and you merge your copies on each frame of your disassembled GIF. You can also, if you want a moving text, display the grid and move it a little square at a time, not easy on such a small image...

Okay, I finally found what was making it give me a hacked image.
In fact, you had to des-optimize the image before modifying it.
