Avast blocks internet access

Update Avast. They have fixed the issue.

my computer has come a long way; I too had those white pages with "The connection has failed
Firefox is unable to connect to the server at www.
The site may be temporarily unavailable or overloaded. Please try again later;

make sure that Firefox is allowed to access the Web."

Even my usual sites (Audiofanzine.com; ladrummerie.com and other music forums where I have my habits) were becoming inaccessible one after the other. I was getting seriously frustrated.

But your suggestions helped me. Rather, they prevented my computer from ending up in pieces.

I just reset the web and standard shields of Avast to normal and everything seems to be getting better.

I also find that Avast sometimes blocks internet access, and I'm left staring at a blank page.
This has been happening since mid-April, so I think it might be due to an update.
I found a workaround; when the page is blocked, I go to the Avast icon in the bottom right corner, click to stop "Web Shield," and everything returns to normal, the page loads. I immediately restart the "Web Shield" service and everything works.
I don't understand why, as the sensitivity of the Web Shield is set to "Normal."
