Yamaha RX-440 RDS amplifier

Hello,

A quick question to those who have this receiver!

So I’ve owned this amp for about 7 years.

My problem is the volume: when I watch DVDs in 5.1 or in DTS and EX, the volume, I have to set it to half, and I’m noticing with a Blu-ray player it’s the same. I’ve checked the installation manual, my connections are good, whether it’s fiber optic or coaxial, it would stay the same.

The volume range goes from 100 to 0.
My speakers are small, which were supplied with the amp.
Personally, I think Yamaha must have revised the sound card to avoid blowing the speakers.

Otherwise the effects are fine, it’s just the sound that bothers me a bit. I don’t see a solution if I go past half, like 3/4 it’s loud and I don’t think it’s normal to go that far to get sound. Moreover, even when watching a Blu-ray DVD I’ve tested with a normal DVD and it’s the same.

Hello  all the amps are the same, in the menu there is a volume setting, delay, distance, ext..... for each speaker and the main volume is on the front.

Hello Tarascon.

For my settings I did have the distance where I watch the film from my TV to my sofa, 3.60 meters, which I displayed for the rear channels, and from left to right about 2 meters. For the settings I have everything displayed as requested in the manual, but it stays the same: to get good sound I am obliged to turn the volume knob to halfway, which seems a bit strange to me, because if I go below that, the sound becomes much quieter.

you've had it for 7 years and before there was sound? the volume for each speaker is at how much on a scale of 0 to 100, well it depends if it’s in W or dB i will find the user manual

Tarascon, nothing has moved for 7 years; the sound stays the same, I have no loss of sound, but simply to get sound I have to set the amplifier to 51 volume. I have the amplifier’s user manual, but there is nothing to gain more sound. I just bought a LG BD560 Blu-ray player and personally I don’t gain more sound, even when watching a Blu-ray DVD I don’t see a difference in sound compared to a regular DVD.

on the manual it talks in db
the volume for each speaker is set to how much on a -70db to +70db scale
Night mode is not activated
inserting a Blu-ray or not is not what will make the sound increase
when you put a Blu-ray Dolby Digital is displayed on the display

Good evening.
Yes indeed it’s about "DB" safety; but the volume is adjustable from 100 down to 0.
When you watch a movie or TV, you set the amp to "50dB" to get a reasonable sound.
We do not have a "Night" mode as you mentioned.
And for the Blu-ray, the sound is improved, and the amp displays "DTS - CINEMA DSP" with the speakers "L - R - C - RL - RR" as well as the subwoofer "LFE".

Good evening again. Night can be found on the remote, or where effects are located such as hall, jazz, rock, etc... 
Check on the display that the speaker selection is (A) by selecting on the front panel speakers (A). 
When the DVD source is chosen, set it to Auto so that normally in 5.1 CINEMA DSP it should not light up.

Also verify that the two front speakers are properly connected in A on the terminals at the top left.

Good evening Tarascon again.

I checked the Night mode switch and when activated the sound reduces a bit, so we left it on Off.

The speaker tests show that the wiring is in the order indicated.

I think the sound card was modified because I tried turning the volume up fully and yes, it’s very loud, with no crackling from the speakers.

On the amplifier front panel the sound starts to come in at 90 dB, but it’s really dull for normal listening, so I set it to 60 dB, and for watching a movie 51 dB to already have cinema-like sound. What does it mean to set the sound to half, and beyond that the sound gets loud.
