Virtual microphone

Hello, I would like to have on my computer a sort of "virtual mic".
Let me explain: On a voice chat, for example, to be able to play music through this "fake mic".

I tried software that emulated a virtual sound card and we could transfer an output signal (from the speakers) to an input signal (the virtual mic) but it was a trial version and it didn’t really work.

So I'm here to ask if someone knows software (preferably free) for that.

If you didn't understand what I said, let me know and I will try to explain it again.

P.S.: I found a cable with a jack plug on each side, I was tempted to plug it into the computer but I was afraid of a short circuit, is there a risk?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.6.13

Hello

Whether it’s in Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7:

IN THE "Recording Devices" SECTION ...

There is a "Stereo Mix" feature that allows you to "send" the sounds produced by the PC as if they were coming from your microphone :-) !

Be careful with the volume settings ...

(It’s even possible to listen to your microphone = your PC sends your voice to the speakers (like a megaphone or a loudspeaker); by adding the mix to this (megaphone), you can produce effects ... effects eeeffects eeeffect.)

In case ... :

I'll try that right away, thank you very much.
But "audio mixer" doesn't appear as a device at all, that's weird... I'm going to download the drivers for my motherboard and I'll see

p.s.: I know Audacity but I've never managed to record even a sound, even though I had the outputs/inputs, sampling and output format set up.

Yes, I would like to connect it to one side identified as audio output, and the other as a microphone.

There is no risk of short-circuiting. However, these are still "Sunday" setups. A nice little paid software is MorphVox Pro (everyone knows how to get it for free and in full version... ;) :D)
If you have any other questions, other answers ;)
