Hello,
a while ago, when starting up my laptop (HP Pavilion DV9000 under Vista) a horizontal double screen appeared for no reason, no shock or software installation.

I restarted the computer several times, sometimes by force, then in Safe Mode...
sometimes Windows would start normally, but with these vertical yellow bars:

I then formatted the computer and switched to Windows 7 but no improvements in the display...
I suppose it’s a graphics card issue or a connection; can you help me?

Hi, actually your problem comes from the NVIDIA GPU chipset soldered onto the motherboard. Of course, the manufacturer default is not recognized by HP. The remaining solution is a reflow.

It is necessary to disassemble the laptop, retrieve the motherboard, remove all the heatsinks and the thermal paste present on the GPU (graphics chipset, a chip with "nvidia" written on it, logically). Once that is done, you must take a heat gun and heat the GPU for two minutes. Be careful: heat guns vary in power; if it heats to 250°C you should leave it for 2 minutes, if it heats to 600°C you should leave it much less time, otherwise you risk ruining the GPU and thus the entire motherboard! After this technique, it’s DIY crap, isn’t it.
Good evening
Mine has just failed after 48 months; verdict at Boulanger: motherboard fault, it's a known issue with HP
We need to check with HP if there is a possibility of exceptional support! I will try as soon as I can

Hello,
I suppose that if either of these two phenomena also occurs in Safe Mode, you can reasonably rule out the "connection" path.
Unless you’re thinking about internal wiring.
Isn't there a Windows 7 tool (or even a function key pressed at startup) that could "test" your PC?
Addendum
The Maintenance and Service Guide for the HP Pavilion dv9000 (Document Part Number: 417615-004) is in English, in PDF format, here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01311536.pdf

Good evening,
I’m contacting you because I have the same problem with my HP laptop running Vista. I also reformatted it, but nothing helped. My computer is already 4 years old and I’m wondering if you have found a solution to this problem or if it would be better to buy a new one?
Could you please advise me?
Thank you

Hello,
I am experiencing a display issue on screen on LENOVO Y510-15303 laptop.
The operating system is Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.
The display works correctly via the VGA port to an external monitor.
According to the installed drivers, the graphics card is NVIDIA 9300M G (Lenovo) and Intel (Chipset).
The screen has display imperfections: only the left side is perfect.
How can I resolve the problem?
