Hello,
Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0, Microsoft Office 2007 English
Hello,
I am writing a thesis in Word 2007
I insert Excel charts by doing CTRL+C in Excel; CTRL+V in Word (this allows for vector format)
To update all my Word links, I press CTRL+A then F9
My Excel sources have been modified which causes a problem for Word. I do NOT want a link between Word and Excel, all I want is vector graphics.
So, I went to Prepare/Edit Links to File and did a "break link" for all my links
Now, when I press CTRL+A then F9 in Word, I get a popup "The link file is not available. Use the Edit Links command to find the file"
How can I get rid of these popups? In short, how can I really make Word understand not to try to link to its Excel source at all?
Thank you
Julien

Good evening,
With version 2007, when copying an Excel chart, there are several options, but the default one (simple paste as you did) generates a link with the Excel workbook. And the link remains as NULL once it is broken. This could be seen as a bug, especially since in previous versions, breaking such a link transformed the chart into an image. But in reality, this allows you to keep a modifiable chart format, which can be transformed into another chart, for example, even if the link is lost.
In the future, when you paste, you will immediately choose the "paste as image" option accessible via the paste button that appears when you paste.
The solution in your current document is to cut and paste each chart as an image. However, you might lose a bit of resolution of your charts.

Good evening
In principle, once the links are broken, we retrieve an "inert" object.
Check that there are no remaining links.
Also display the fields with Alt+F9: what do you see?

Hello m@rina and thank you for your reply
To verify your first hypothesis:
I create a new blank document,
I insert an Excel graph
I break the link
CTRL+A then F9: "The link file is not available. Use the Edit Links command to find the file"
So Word still tries to access the source
When I display the fields, I have for example
However, nothing codes the figure itself, just the graph is displayed
Thank you if anyone has an idea because I have been stuck for 24 hours and I only have 30 pages... My colleagues talk about switching to LaTeX, while I am sure Word can handle it...
Thank you
Julien

To check for links, simply display the Connections dialog.
I asked you what you see when you display the fields, and you didn't respond clearly...

In the box of links
I have n lines containing:
Source File Item Type Update
Null -- Chart Man
When I press ALT+F9
My graphs are graphs, there is no code
The only things coded are my figure, table, equation titles and their references in the text

Here is a piece of the thesis in question:

Click on file/download in the top left to download the *.docx
When I press CTRL+A then F9
The 2 graphs cause issues by opening 2 popups
even though the links have been broken
Thanks in advance if someone finds!

I choose to keep my graphics in vector format rather than convert them to raster. The only drawback is all the error messages when updating the links in the thesis.
Have a good day.
