Hello,
I've been trying to download Skype for a few hours now and I can't get it to work. I've tried checking forums but none provide a solution to my problem.
I download Skype, a window opens, I accept and install, and then for hours, the download bar fills up to about 90% and then goes back to 0% saying "initializing download" and the process repeats indefinitely...
Do you have a solution?
Thank you in advance
Configuration: Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 8.0

Hi,
For my part, I also struggled before realizing that the 'Windows Installer' service was not active, hence the issue.
To fix this:
Run > "services.msc" > Ok > Windows Installer > Startup type (disabled -> auto preferably) > Start.
Restart the installation of Skype; if it still doesn't work, restart your PC and start the installation.
It worked for me.
Good chat!

Finally, I managed to install it... It just took a lot, a lot of time. I had to start over a good ten times, and the next day, miracle, it was installed...
Good evening,
It is unnecessary to create multiple discussions on the same subject,
they will be automatically deleted.
You will stay on this one and patiently wait for a
volunteer to come and assist you.
Thank you for your understanding.

We're 24 hours later. I left my computer running. Skype is still not installed. And the initialization keeps looping... going from 17% installed to suddenly 0 and restarting an initialization...
Grrr
Grrr
I have turned off my computer several times and restarted it... it had no effect.
However, I might have just found a start to the solution.
The Skype installation finally gave me an error message indicating an incompatibility with Windows 7...
So I will go ahead and force the installation in Windows since it is being offered to me...

Thank you to Emimax62,
indeed, after starting the Windows Installer service, within a few minutes Skype was up and running, whereas this installation had been stuck for hours.

Same thing, reached 17%, and then, poof, it magically goes back to 0...
It's frustrating.
Even with the so-called trick of the Windows Installer service, it's impossible.
I'm going to stick with WLM2011 in the meantime.
Skype is fine, but this issue makes it worse than crap.

Well, for those who are still having an issue:
I did a little digging, and apparently, it comes from the setup.exe program...
I took this one (link provided by someone from the Skype community on a forum), if some people doubt it, I understand, just ask me to link you to the forum in question; with all the viruses floating around, I would understand your caution.
Anyway, for me, it’s perfect, installed and working =)

Hello, I had the same problem after installing Windows 7.
Skype 5.6 was downloaded and completely installed
but it wouldn't start.
On a forum, a guy suggested downloading Skype 5.10.104, which I did and I followed the process to the end.
Miracle, it worked.
A few minutes later, a window warned me that there was a newer version of Skype that I accepted to download.
There you go, it worked for me, maybe this will help some
I’m on Windows 7, 32-bit

I would like someone to explain to me where the problem lies... I have disabled antivirus, firewalls...
Is it because my broadband is not very strong?
You're lucky if you managed to install it without doing anything.
At my place, it has already rebooted at least 25 times on its own in a loop, and Skype is still not installed...
I'm going to leave it all night to see. I confess I'm a bit fed up with struggling with this since 7 PM when it's 10:30 PM just to fail on the forum and see that there's no immediate solution... I'm hungry!
If anyone has a starting point or suggestions for tests to try to unblock this endless loop...

Have you done any research on other discussions
in the forum having the same problem?
You have some below the initial message ;)

Could you help me Emixam62 or someone else
Thanks again.
On Windows 7 (and XP I think) it's a standard "local service."
In the "Search ..." box of the "Start" option, type "service," click on "services" in the search result, and you'll get the list.
Windows Installer is at the end...select it and click "Start the service" (at the top left of the list).
Then restart the installation of Skype.
This service (it seems to me) is by default in manual mode...so if you shut down Windows, when you restart, it will be stopped again.
If you want it to always be running, you need to set it to "automatic"...anyway, once Skype is installed, this service is no longer needed for Skype.
Let us know if it works for you.
