import mini DV without camcorder...

Question

Hello,  I have a SONY DCR-PC101E PAL camcorder with which I've made numerous mini DV tapes. We wanted to transfer these tapes to PC. Since then, the camcorder has broken down twice (scratches on the video during playback). A service has "repaired" the camcorder twice. It works for a few tapes and then the failure happens again. I'm not going to pay for 36 repairs until I've transferred everything. I'm looking for a way to transfer these tapes without going through the camcorder. If you have any ideas... Thanks in advance.

Hello, I also think it’s the best solution. However, if your tapes are dirty, you will quickly ruin the new camcorder, and you'll find yourself in the same mess again! Because it’s possible that your Sony is getting clogged like this, and that could be the problem!

Hello  Cleaning tapes is a bit risky, especially since I don't believe in it. The transfer of the cassettes can be done with the help of a friend who has a mini DV camcorder; there is a wide range of products, with the cheapest ones being from Samsung (around 100 Euros). Have you tried eBay or the cash converters... thingy?  Otherwise, the last resort is the lab, but they charge by the hour.  Good luck  P.S. If you went to the beach with the Sony, that might explain it.
