Hello,

I am inexperienced in computers, but certain things make me think that someone has taken remote control of my Mac... I suspect this because the person in question has slightly incriminated themselves... so I would like to know what I need to do to get rid of this...
Thank you in advance for looking into my problem...
P.S.: I searched online, but I can't find anything, or I don't understand what is explained...

Configuration: Mac OS X / Safari 533.18.5

Hello,

Hello everyone,

This is all extremely confusing and relates to this message https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-19518663-msn-sous-mac-la-photo-ne-veut-pas-s-affich#1
That has remained unanswered since,
But it is clear that in this discussion you are not telling everything, and that "SOMEONE" has installed something on your Mac, with your consent, and therefore, "SOMEONE" has had every opportunity to rummage through the contents of your Mac, still with your consent, and that again "SOMEONE" has possibly created a MSN account for you and therefore knows your credentials... etc...

Erase your hard drive and reinstall Mac OS, change all your passwords, and do not let "SOMEONE" touch your Mac anymore.

Stop fantasizing about ghost remote access, if you let "SOMEONE" do anything they want on your Mac.

Have a good day

Hello,

Is your Mac at home or at work?
At work:
Your employer may have indeed installed the necessary software to take control of all the Macs in their company in order to manage the IT infrastructure remotely (updates, backups, ...)

At home:
Open "System Preferences -> Sharing" and if "Remote Login" or "Remote Management" is enabled, then anything is possible. So uncheck these two options, if you have administrative rights on your Mac because normally the small padlock at the bottom left is closed.

Thank you for getting back to me. I went to check, but nothing was checked... Is it possible that there is another way to take control of a Mac??? Because the person gave me information that only I normally know... so I find that really suspicious...

Put some crazy information about the targeted person on your Mac and wait for them to comment on a detail of that crazy info...
...but oh well.

Hello

And since you're answering my questions, here’s one more:
"the person gave me information that only I normally know": what kind of information? Can you clarify?

Hello,

+1, wouldn't this information have been found in an email? A USB key? Somewhere other than on the Mac?

Because taking control of a Mac remotely without permission (so everything unchecked in sharing) is really far from being an easy task. To be honest, I've never encountered a case where the Mac was controlled; in the end, the person always left their information lying around in their email inbox (often Hotmail) or a USB key that a friend borrowed for 2 minutes just to copy it...

Hello
To complement the remarks of aiglenoirdu29, it’s enough that this person took advantage of you being away from your Mac to directly read the information on your screen...

Indeed, we return to the first question:
Is your Mac at home or at work?

Hello,

You ask for help and you don't want to answer a simple question like "Is your Mac at home or at work?".
I find that very rude on your part!

Good evening Ritchi and eagle,

Not only is it rude, but it also suggests a blatant dishonesty and, setting aside the bad manners (which are also quite obvious), there might be a shady deal underneath, which wouldn't surprise me at all!!!!

There are really some kicks in the ass that are wasted!!

Good evening, young people,

Remote takeover? If it's not in the workplace, a situation Ritchi has covered, there's still the possibility of dubious downloads, accompanied by a little surprise when launching the retrieved software...

May the night be sweet for you.

I'm sorry for the lack of information on my part... (ritchi) In fact, my Mac is at home and not in a company... I retrieved a software, which I then deleted... because it’s the same person who gave me the information about myself... but now I don't know if it's too late... or how I should go about cleaning my Mac of this plague?!?
Thank you very much for the answers...

Good evening,

"Recovered"? How?
Downloaded or copied from a device provided by the person in question?
Which software?
Etc, etc, etc?

No one can help you very effectively if you don't describe all the details of your situation!

You say that the person in question is talking about things they shouldn't know. Are you sure that the only way they could have learned them is through your Mac? Common friends, colleagues, can be a formidable source of leaks.

Do you have any other signs of takeover? Just because someone mentions things they shouldn't know doesn't mean there's a takeover; it just means they heard, read, or saw these personal things. A takeover would cause you to lose control of your machine: programs that you didn't install would be running, files would appear or disappear without your involvement, you would be unable to use certain functions, you would feel a general slowdown, or even you wouldn't be able to do anything at all...

no, I don't have any other signs... but it freaked me out (I'm terrible with computers) the software in question was msn 2011 for mac... supposedly a pirated version of I don't know what, that hasn't been released yet... but since the person in question is a police officer... I think anything is possible... and also, I forgot to mention that several times, I find my msn title completely changed from what I had set it to... and I feel like it's lagging when I search the net... so thanks again for the responses

Hi there, what we don't deserve ;-)

Aren't you sunk yet? With all that rowing and flipping out, you're bound to go under!!

Instead, read what Sanspseudo is telling you and apply what he's explaining; you'll cry less!!

And hey, a kick in the pants helps you move forward :-))

Say hello to your public force mentor!!!

Hello,
good wordplay... thank you for the information provided... I think it's a takeover via msn, because I have certain pages that open with my credentials. Without me even opening them myself... I might sink, maybe!!!! lol, but that's how life goes.... thanks again for all your answers...
