Internet browsing issues with Windows 7

Hello,
I have a problem that's been bothering me for several hours now. Here it is: my PC crashed (and one of my friends fixed it, but it's unfortunately on its last legs). With it, I'm connected to the wifi at Club Internet (now bought by SFR), using a classic modem, and under Windows XP, which still works since I’m posting this message from that PC.
Since that PC is at the end of its life, I've just bought a new one that runs on Windows 7. I tried to install the internet on it using the CD, but it didn’t work (it didn’t read the CD). So, I connected to the wifi on the modem with the modem name and the WEP key. Perfect, my new PC connects. The problem is, when I open a webpage (specifically IE because that's the only one on the PC), it takes a long time to load, only to finally display "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I even tried other addresses, but it’s always the same message.
I clicked on "diagnose connection problems," but it tells me there are no issues. I also uninstalled the antivirus that came installed on the PC at purchase, as well as the firewalls and everything that goes with it, but nothing, it's still the same.
I want to emphasize that my old PC is also connected via wifi, and it works perfectly well. However, the new one still doesn't want to cooperate.
Does anyone have a solution? Because I wasn't familiar with Windows 7 before, and I'm having a hard time getting used to it.

Good evening,
Uninstall your IE, download one on your other PC, then via a USB stick, reinstall it on the new one.

I followed your advice... well, sort of.
I wasn't able to uninstall IE, but I was able to install Firefox with my USB drive, as you suggested. With Firefox, it works; I can surf the Internet without any problems, but IE still doesn't work.
Now, it's MSN that's not working. I installed it, but it refuses to connect. I checked the firewalls, and they accept everything coming from MSN.
I tried to see if others have had this issue, but the problem is that usually, the solutions are provided for Windows XP, not for Windows 7. So, I don't know what to do or where to look because apparently, it's an issue with main ports (while with my old PC, MSN works fine).

Hello
Do you have an error number?
If you log in to "Microsoft," you should be able to download "Internet Explorer" even if you don’t use it, it will help you update your programs
Best regards
Otherwise, you will need to configure the wireless network for Windows 7.

For MSN, when I try to log in, I get "error 81000306" ... then, when I click on "troubleshoot", it tells me there’s a problem with the "main ports" (even though everything is well connected, and MSN works perfectly on my other PC) ... and when I click on "repair" and try to log in again, it gives me "error 800488eb" this time.
For IE, there is no error code, I tried the checks it suggested, but still nothing ... it just says "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage", but it does this for any site ... I’m trying to download another version of IE (it’s the beta version 9, the Microsoft site was offering it), but in my opinion, that won't change anything.

Hello
If Windows 7 does not correctly detect the Wi-Fi network or if the network is not yet in range, it can be configured manually.
In the notification area, right-click on the wireless network icon and select Open Network and Sharing Center
In the Network and Sharing Center, click on Manage Wireless Networks
In the network management interface, click on Add
The wizard opens, click on Manually create a network profile
Enter the wireless network information:
Network name: this is the SSID (Service Set Identifier) that is used to identify the wireless network according to the IEEE 802.11 standard
Security type: choose the type of security
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), first generation encryption which has 26 hexadecimal characters
WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and WPA2, a more secure data encryption mechanism, which can have up to 63 characters
Encryption type: choose the type of encryption
TKIP (Temporary Key Integrity Protocol), allows for random key generation
AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), secure encryption
In general, Internet Service Providers indicate this information on the subscription contract or under the ADSL Box.
Check the box to Start this connection automatically and click Next.
The wizard offers to modify connection settings if necessary. Click Close
The new wireless network has been added
By clicking on the Wireless Network icon in the notification area, click on Connect and confirm Home Network.

That's the problem: my PC is already connected to my modem via Wi-Fi... I was able to download MSN through Firefox... it tells me that I have Internet access and an excellent connection... but when I open MSN and try to connect, it won't connect, even though it's already properly connected to my modem.
Hello, go to
Internet Options
Connections
you should have 3 options to connect, test all three to see.

Hello
also try: obtain administrator rights
then using Notepad, modify the hosts file in
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
keep only the first lines up to "127.0.0.1 localhost" included
and delete everything else

Mistro: I went where you suggested, but I have nothing written in the box.
Untenshu: There is no document called "127.0.1 localhost"... besides, there are only 5 or 6 files, and none have any numbers.
I went to the customer service of the store where I bought the PC on Thursday, they tried a lot of things, like updates, but nothing... I stayed there for 2 hours and the store was closing... one of the technicians explained to me that I needed to install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7... but I checked, it is not available yet and I can't find the link for the "pirated and secure" version that everyone talks about in the articles.

If you talk about the checkbox options "never connect," "connect if there is no network connection," and "always connect by default," I can't select any of them, everything is greyed out, I can't access it, just like the "default" button next to it.
Yes, that's what I was talking about; maybe uninstalling and reinstalling IE could possibly solve your issue.
It's all good, I just found the solution, it's in this part... actually, you had to click below, on "network settings", and then uncheck the box "use a proxy server for your local server"... I searched everywhere, I clicked on just about everything, and since I unchecked that box, IE and MSN are working.
Thanks anyway to both of you who took the time to help me.
