Hello,
I would like to know if you can test my FTP server by sending a small file.
It's just to see if it works on other PCs.
Here are the credentials:
HOST: 127.0.0.1
LOGIN: test.WebAFond
PASS: test

Thank you!

    Hi.

Host: 127.0.0.1 ? Are you kidding us? That's a loopback IP, it means it points to the machine trying to access it.

We need your public IP (which might be dynamic; the fix: No-IP or DynDNS) and that you forward port 21.

Your server answers to the ping but I get a "time out" for FTP; if you’re connected with a modem/router, have you opened the port?

You cannot access your server locally with your public IP if you’re behind a router, the router intercepts it.

Phew, luckily it’s not a public IP, you don’t seem to realize the risks.

    What risks?
    That’s the IP, right?
    192.168.0.13

INFO: I changed the port to 31

    Here’s NO-IP: webafondserver.no-ip.org

It’s also a private IP… and why change the port?

For the risks, you give your IP address to everyone with FTP credentials.

@maxime: exactly, he wants us to try sending a file to his FTP, it’s necessary that he provides the credentials (likely an account he created specifically for the test).

webafondserver.no-ip.org points to 192.168.0.13: this is a private IP, accessible only via your local network.
To get your public IP: monip.org
If you have a dynamic IP, you need to install the No-IP client to automatically update the IP that webafondserver.no-ip.org points to

Yes, but there aren’t only us who have access to the login information, so an anonymous user (or not) can send a trojan or something else.

If the author of the topic is smart enough not to open everything we put on the FTP, there’s no problem (a virus could be stored without being run).

You think I’m going to open a virus?
I just want you to send a file to see if it works ;)

Yes I created a special account for testing.
I went to the site monip.org and they gave me this:
    88.184.64.74

I tried to connect with this thing on FileZilla Client but it doesn't work :(
    I installed No-ip.
    Thanks for your help ;)

    Yes I opened the port.
They told me that I needed to do a port 21 redirection to my machine?
    Is that it?

Forget port 21, your FTP server listens on port 31 according to what you told us (and the BulletProof FTP Server window).

This operation is done via your modem (or your router, Freebox, Bbox, etc.; it has so many names now), usually at 192.168.1.1.

For my part, I have to go to Advanced options, NAT then "Virtual servers".
