Open a .dav file on Mac

Hello,
this is a video file that I retrieved from a hard drive associated with a surveillance camera (legally, don’t worry).
When I view the information, here’s what appears:
type: Unix executable file
extension: .dav

Any advice on how to view and then share the video clip hidden under this file?
Thanks in advance to everyone!

Configuration: Mac OS X / Firefox 3.6.2

Thank you. I also found a lot of information about the WebDAV protocol, but unfortunately it has nothing to do with my .dav extension!

Hello, my reply might be useless... but VLC (media player) plays a lot of formats... maybe try it if you haven't already...
      but I don't know :-s...
      See you!

@dede74000: thank you... I believed in it! But I can only find incompatible players on Mac. I'm not losing hope, and I will try to follow all these links...

@Florian: it is indeed the first thing I tried to do. But even VLC can't handle that cursed extension!

I'm replying late, but maybe this will help someone.

I faced the same problem, and the only reliable solution I found was to download Record Player 1.9.1.2 on Windows and convert my .dav files to .avi.
However, it's noticeable that when you fast forward in the videos, there's a slight delay... But at least it works.

Here’s a link to Record Player (DVA Player as well) found on an English site.

The conversion is done using a small button on the interface; you select your .dav file and then the destination folder, and the conversion happens quickly.

    Anyway, have a great day.

The .avi format is completely usable on Mac, then.
