My computer starts after pressing F2.

Question

Hello,

I don't understand why my computer isn't starting up correctly. I get a beep followed by the following message:

"Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting
Press F1 to run setup
Press F2 to load default values and continue"

So I press F2 and it's good... What can I do to make it restart normally? I should mention that since I bought my computer #1 and after several repairs at the IT supplier, it seems I have read the message: "No hard disc detected" multiple times...
Can you help me, please? My computer is my work tool!

The shop is not IN the battery... in any case, when you have to reset the time, it means the battery is not doing its job... there might be something else as well, but the simplest thing is to start there... to test it, you need a voltmeter, your shop can do that.
Also, try hitting F1 to enter the BIOS, there you set the time and date, and then save... and see if that works better...

PS: if it's a tower, you'll need to remove the right cover (when looking from the back), and you'll see a CR2032 button cell battery (20mm in diameter and 3.2mm thick) clipped against the motherboard, with the + facing the motherboard and the - against it... you will have to put it back in the same direction, obviously (5 to 6 € max)

I think we should look at the BIOS battery which must be weak, and therefore doesn’t retain the values....

I thought about it but it was changed only a few months ago by the computer store that sold us the computer! It's true that before the change, the displayed time was never correct and it’s happening again anyway!

So I already pressed F1 to enter the BIOS to change the date and time. Even after saving, it resets on the next startup.

Do you know if your hard drive is IDE or SATA?
You can always put it as a slave on your other PC, you'll see what it's capable of...
For IDE or SATA, you can tell by the connectors: about 7 cm wide for an IDE and only 2 or 3 cm for a SATA...
How many hard drives do you have on this PC?

My HDD is SATA. I only have one internal HDD and I have an external one to back up all my data.

So, check in the BIOS if there isn't AHCI next to this hard drive... if that's the case, change it to the other option....

There was indeed the other IDE option. Strangely, I did nothing, no need to press F2 and the time is accurate! Could the battery have woken up?!!!

But no, senility doesn't start at 62!!! Especially when you can help with computers!
No, the new battery wasn't really new... I understand a bit better why the store didn't charge me for it: every time, after a visit, I go back shortly after... That's why I'm questioning him!

And yes, I am indeed in 2010 and not in 2002 as the computer indicated!

No no no! I had already had problems with the time display and he told me it was the battery. He said he changed it and that he wouldn't charge me for it. If at the same time it wasn't a new battery...
