Bibliorom 2.0 works well on Windows 7.

Hello everyone.

I believe I have solved the issue with installing Bibliorom 2.0 on Windows 7. As a newcomer to the forum, I suggest testing my solution and sharing it on the web after you try it:

The malfunction of Bibliorom 2.0 on Windows 7 seems to come from the fact that the software installs an old version of Macromedia Director in the following directory:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Director

The file responsible for the problem is the iml32.dll file, which is 471KB in size and dated 06/17/1998. It is necessary to replace this file with an updated version:

1) If not already done, in the control panel, open the "Folder Options" panel, then in the "View" tab, activate the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" button, and then uncheck the options "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files."
2) If not already done, install the latest version of Adobe Shockwave 11 available for download at the following address:

http:\\get.adobe.com\fr\shockwave\

3) Open the directory C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Shockwave 11
4) Locate the new version of the iml32.dll file, which is 988KB in size and dated May 5, 2010 (version 11.5.7.609)
5) Copy this file and paste it to replace the obsolete iml32.dll file in the directory C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Director
6) In the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Reference\Bibliorom Larousse 2.0, right-click on the properties of the biblio2.exe file, then in the compatibility tab, select the compatibility mode "Windows XP Service Pack 2." I also chose the option "Run this program as an administrator."

This modification has so far made Bibliorom 2.0 functional on my computer running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
Additionally, it has resolved a functionality issue with Bibliorom that, with the old iml32.dll file, consumed way too many resources, unnecessarily heating up my Intel E5200 dual-core processor. Hence, I had to close Bibliorom after each use to slow down the processor fan. Now, I can leave Bibliorom open for hours without consuming any additional resources and without overheating... and that’s good for both my wallet and the planet!

    I had already checked the aforementioned link, but I saw that in my CD I did not have a BShelf directory, just 4 directories instead of the 5 previously mentioned. I think it's because my bibliorom is original and does not belong to any pack, as I could understand from the comments on the link.

      Bibliorom 2 works very well on Windows 7. For fans of this amazing, essential, and irreplaceable software.
      A summary of the information gathered above and a bit of tinkering. Thanks to everyone.
      1. Install Bibliorom 2 from the CD file BShelf\Install.exe as an administrator and in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
      2. Copy the entire CD into the installation folder.
      3. Install the latest version of Adobe Shockwave 11 downloadable from this address:
      http:\\get.adobe.com\en\shockwave\
      4. Copy the file iml32.dll located in C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Shockwave 11
      5. Paste it into C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Director
      6. Enjoy.
      Advantages:
      * No need for the CD
      * All works are available
      * No excessive resource consumption.

    Hello!
    I found another solution: you don't need to install the software...
    Here’s the process
    --. copy the entire CD-ROM onto the hard drive (for example, in the programs folder)
    --. create a shortcut for the file bshelf/biblio2.exe in the Start menu (to avoid having to search for the program each time)
    --. specify the path C:\Program Files\... (where you copied the CD-ROM) the first time you use it.
    So, I didn’t install Shockwave.

    I would like to thank you in advance for your time and dedication in helping everyone, myself included, who has difficulty installing this software on Windows 7. I am still facing this issue because I can't download the Adobe Shockwave 11 version from home, the page won't open. Would it be possible to receive this version already downloaded by email? I would greatly appreciate it if you help me resolve my issue.

    Hello,
    In addition to this post:
    I always use the simplified version included in Office 97. The shortcut works very well; it redirects me to all the works. When I installed it a long time ago, there were several shortcuts, each redirecting to a dictionary. I only use common nouns, but I have lost the settings that link to them. Does anyone know what to add after the line launching Bibliorom?

    Hello,

    I just installed Bibliorom Larousse 2.0 on Windows 7 - 32 bits. I had to install the latest version of Shockwave (version 12 as of today) for it to work. Version 11 didn't work.
    In fact, the program doesn't call upon anything found in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Director\, installed with Bibliorom, as long as Shockwave is installed under ..\System32\Adobe\Shockwave12. No need to do anything: No need to copy the file iml32.dll into Macromed\Director, no need for Biblio2.exe to be XP compatible or anything else, no need to run the program in 'Administrator' mode, etc., just install the latest version of Shockwave and you're all set. Everything works except the national anthems (error: No MIDI device available).

    There you go, I hope this will be useful to you. Best wishes for 2015.

    Hello and thanks for the info,

    Although I couldn't test this solution as I'm using the 64-bit version of Win 7, the information provided pointed me in a direction that allowed me to solve my problem. Here it is:

    1) Check out the following link "https://www.generation-nt.com/reponses/bibliorom-larousse-sous-vista-64-ca-marche-entraide-3592311.html" and follow the displayed instructions.
    2) In the BShelf directory, change the properties of the icon "Biblio2.exe" to allow it to run in "Vista SP2" mode under the "Compatibility" tab.
    3) If necessary, enter the path to "Bibliorom" when launching the program for the first time, example - C:\Bibliorom2.
    4) Install the latest version of Shockwave.

    There you go. Everything should work.
