Printing on 1/4 of the sheet???

Hello

I have a new problem (with my printer this time) and since I can't resolve it, I'm turning to you:

So, at first, I had Windows ME and I installed (without the CD that wasn't provided) my CANON I 560 printer which was working perfectly. I got hit by some nasty viruses the first time which infected several thousand files and completely froze everything to the point that I had to call in an IT technician. Anyway, once my computer was recovered, I was able to reinstall my printer without any problem.
A month later, here we go again! I caught another nasty virus that froze everything straight away! I therefore had to once again call the IT technician who installed XP (telling me that I would catch fewer viruses ???). And what's curious is that since I've had XP (coincidence or not?), I can't install my printer! Or rather I can, but the model is not listed among those offered to me, so I chose a compatible one (as specified). After which I printed a test page: how is it that everything I print comes out on 1/4 of the A4 page??? In short, all the text is printed but very small and only on the top left quarter of the sheet (I don't know if what I'm saying is very clear?). So of course, I tested with other compatible models: same thing! I've also checked all the settings, options, etc..., apparently everything is normal.

So what’s wrong (because it’s seriously starting to get on my nerves)?

Thanks for your help

Hi!

I guess you haven't checked the Canon website...
There are drivers available for your printer...

No, indeed, I didn't check Canon's website, simply because I didn't think that drivers could be downloaded (I should mention that I know nothing about it).
That said, do I just need to download this software? Is there anything else I need to do afterwards? And is it free (since that isn't mentioned)?

In any case, thank you, Nunuxnewby

In general, it is recommended to download the latest drivers for any hardware... (motherboard, sound card, graphics card, scanner, printer, etc... etc...)
- Better stability
- Added features
- Increased performance
- Bug fixes

Drivers are free!

You click
You download
You install

If you are not asked to pay, it means it's free! Otherwise, don’t worry, it ALWAYS gets stuck at the payment stage! :-)

@more and give some news!

Well, I downloaded this software and it doesn't work:
at first, my CANON I56O printer is detected, then I'm informed that a problem occurred during the hardware installation, etc...
In fact, during the file copying, a box systematically appears telling me that it can't copy a certain file, namely CNMFUS.DL.... ???

It's (very) rare for a download to fail and for us to receive a corrupted file... but you might just be out of luck... A printer that brings bad luck...

Try downloading the file again...

I'll check on my side to see if I can find any other solutions...

Unable to download it, the file: I've already tried.
That said, until now, I had no problem reinstalling the printer after reformatting due to viruses. It's only since I've had XP that I can no longer reinstall it.
By chance or not, I don't know, but that's definitely when it started.

Alright then!
Solution number 2, try to install the driver manually...

I'll try to be clear and precise (this is going to be hard)!

1) The driver you downloaded is a "self-extracting archive" (it's a compressed file that contains several files), the goal being to decompress this archive, but not in an automated way... in order to recover all the files it contains.
Hence the question! Do you have a compression/decompression software (Winzip, WinRAR, WinACE, 7-zip, or Power archiver)

No? Then download WinRAR (a 40-day trial version) there are some free ones, but I use WinRAR, the others, I only know by name.
http://www.adc-soft.com/dwl-winrar.htm

Once WinRAR is installed, right-click on the driver file and choose "Extract to b4324mux\"

2) You will now have a folder "b4324mux" next to the file "b4324mux.exe" containing all the files that the archive held.

3) Start menu => settings => Control panel => Printers and faxes

4) There, select your Canon i560 printer, and delete it (right-click => delete)

5) Double-click on "add a printer" => "A local printer connected to this" and uncheck "Plug and Play detection and installation.........)

6) Use the following port: USB001 (if it's connected via USB)
Click next

7) Then click on "disk provided", then browse, and go to the folder "b4324mux" where all the files we just extracted are, then into the subfolder "i560" and select the file i560.inf

8) Next => Next => Next... and it's done!!!
I don't have this printer, but it went smoothly for me!!!

Now that I have detailed everything for you, I think there might be a simpler solution! Damn it! I should have thought of that earlier!!!
Try to reinstall the driver as you did the first time, BUT unplug your printer BEFORE installing the driver!!!!

If it doesn't work, apply my complex method!

1°) I have Quick Zip

Otherwise, for your little 4, I can't uninstall CANON since, as I mentioned, I can't install it and, consequently, it has never been installed (well, not since I've had XP)

Well, I'll try all that but tomorrow, because right now, I don't have the time

Alright! Looking forward to hearing from you!
Quick zip is great too! ;-)

Good evening everyone

Well, you see, I didn't have to apply your complex method (lol) since I followed your advice by first uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and... oh, miracle: it's working this time! (go figure why).
In short, as this time it's the "right printer" that's installed, well, it prints correctly and normally (and not just on a quarter of the page!)

A big thank you to you, nunuxnewby!
