Tab closes when I click on it Solved

Question

Hello, I'm using Google Chrome on Windows and for the past few hours I've been having a problem with the tabs.

So here it is, when I click on a tab to switch to it, it automatically closes.

Also, when I click on a link from my bookmarks bar, the page opens in a new tab instead of the one I was on. So, to see it, I have to close the tab I'm on because, as mentioned earlier, I can't click on the tab to switch to it.

It's the same for the folders in my bookmarks bar. When I click on a folder to display the dropdown menu, I don't get a dropdown menu but all the pages in that folder open...

I should add that I can't right-click on the tabs or the links in the bookmarks bar. If I right-click on the tabs, they close, and if I right-click on the links, they open...

I hope I've been clear enough!

It's really very annoying. Has anyone else encountered this problem and could help me?

I found the answer on an English site: you just need to click once on the wheel of your mouse, or the middle button. Chrome would suddenly misinterpret the information sent by the mouse, and this action would sort it out. Anyway, it worked for me.

If it still doesn't work, you can open a new tab using the keyboard shortcut:

Ctrl+T on Windows
cmd + T on MAC

I am using version 5.0.375.55  The problem went away when I restarted the computer, but I would like to know what caused it...

It does exactly the same thing for me (tabs, favorites,...) It's been going on for a good week and I've had to restart the computer a good ten times in the meantime, yet nothing works :(

Hello,
Have you checked the options in Google Chrome?
I don't have the same problem, but maybe by configuring the tabs and managing the bookmarks, it should be possible.
Otherwise, try downloading the latest version of Google Chrome, or updating it.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same issue, plus the inability to open the wrench icon for settings. I'm on XP Home, I reinstalled Chrome with its latest version: nothing. Restarted: nothing, I checked and cleaned the computer with Spybot, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, antivirus Avista, all updated to the latest versions: nothing.
Trackpad or mouse: same problems!!! Windows firewall okay, Google Chrome exceptions checked... So what else is left to do?
This seems to be a problem for quite a few people on XP :-(

Personally, I've encountered similar issues (see above). In my case, it all stemmed from a malfunction of my wireless mouse. Restarting without the mouse receiver made everything return to normal. I changed my mouse and everything is fine now. Good luck...

Hello, I also have this problem. Restarting hasn't helped. Have you found any solutions since? It's quite annoying, especially since I use the internet a lot, particularly for my university classes, where I need several tabs open. I'm stuck with 4 windows open, which is a bit cluttered ^^

Do you use a wireless mouse? When restarting without a USB receiver for the mouse, is the situation the same?

Hello,

I have the same issue:
- When I click on an open tab to access it, the tab closes (and I want to specify that I am not clicking on the cross)
- The wrench menu is inaccessible.
- When I hover over a tab and click on a link in my bookmarks, it opens in a new tab (not the one I was in)
- When I click on the Back button, the previous page opens in a new tab ...

I have version 17 of Google Chrome and I already had the problem in the previous version.
I've already restarted my computer and reinstalled Google Chrome. Nothing works.
I swapped my mouse with another one: the same problem persists.
I learned the different Chrome shortcuts for troubleshooting: Ctrl+[tab number]; Alt + T to access the wrench; Ctrl + T; Ctrl + W; Alt + arrow; etc., BUT it's not very ideal!!
Clicking the middle mouse button (wheel) does not fix my issue.

Can someone help me resolve my problem, please??

For me, it was enough to install the pending Windows updates. Since then, no more problems... It sounds strange but it works.

I have exactly the same problem, I noticed that it happens to me when I stay inactive for too long and the web pages remain open. I tried the solution given above (clicking on the mouse wheel) and it automatically fixed my problem. I clicked on favorites and tools and they opened right away. Thanks Mat :) thanks to you I no longer have to restart my computer every time.

For others for whom it doesn't work, I used to delete all my cookies and cache using the c-cleaner software, I would restart the computer and the problem was also fixed.

Hello

Having had the same problem with Google Chrome, I right-clicked on the frame of the Chrome window at the top (not on a tab, but next to it...)

and I launched the browser task manager (shortcut=Shift+Esc) and there, I clicked on the "Shockwave Flash" plug-in.

Then I selected "End Process."
In my case, this immediately resolved the problem, without even having to exit Chrome or restart the computer...
