Hello everyone,
I have a big problem, my phone got soaked yesterday through my tracksuit. When I took it out of my pocket a few minutes after the downpour, it was soaked but it worked. 2 hours later the screen became blurry and 5 minutes later the screen went black and won't display anything. I got home 20 minutes after realizing it and since then I've been letting it dry. The speaker works again but the screen still doesn't... Please help me!! Tell me a method to dry it better, I don't know, any ideas... thanks everyone!

Well, I'm an expert in the field!! ^_^ I've been pretty lucky with this kind of situation, let's say that the different phones I’ve had either fell into the toilet (just with water, I should specify), or into the bath, or in the water on the street, and even the last one got soaked in seawater (very, very bad). But no matter what, they all worked again!

First of all, it's good to start by removing the battery... that way there's no risk of a short circuit! :-D Then you need to disassemble it as much as possible... and ABOVE ALL, DO NOT put it in the sun!!! For those who are skeptical, I suggest you try it and prepare your pockets to buy another one... or it's that you really have an enormous stroke of luck!!!
A hairdryer, sure, why not, but with the cold air button... nothing else
because I should specify that a temperature above 30° (around) completely wrecks the phone (or any other device) as the components are super sensitive to heat and cold! Hence the bad idea of putting it in the sun!!

Otherwise, with that, I don't see any other solution than to wait! And it will likely take more than 24 hours... it depends on how wet it is...

In any case, good luck.. it's not in every case that it works again...

Hello,

If you leave it in a dry place, there's a good chance it will eventually work again once the inside is completely dry.
Start by removing the battery, and to speed up the drying process, open everything you can: the RAM access flap and the CD drive tray if you don't want to open it completely. In the open position, lay it on its side to maximize the surface area in contact with the ambient air.
If the weather is currently the same as here, you can put it out in the sun or by an open window.
I can't tell you how long it will take: it depends on how much water got inside and the drying conditions.
I don’t recommend using a hairdryer. It’s too aggressive and could cause damage. Or use it without heat.

So, as kionawaïs explains, you can go ahead with the hairdryer. And there's even more chance it will work than with a PC. It's almost guaranteed. I know someone who came back to life after falling into seawater!

Hey, my phone also got wet.
I panicked so much that I did everything wrong. First, I wiped it and took everything out.
Then I charged it for a few seconds :(. It wasn't charged before it got wet, and I wanted to check if it was working.
After that, I used a hairdryer for a few seconds and shook it to get the remaining water out.

Well, it depends on the program. It's a question of temperature.

At 30°, there are chances.
At 40°, it's random.
Beyond 40°, there's almost no hope.

What decreases the chances of recovery is the duration of stay in the water.

Here is my experience:
I have a Nokia N93 (optical zoom, wifi, bluetooth, 3G...). I fell into a pool.
The first reflex I had when I got out of the water was to remove the battery immediately.
I couldn't dry it right away, but when I got home, I dried it with a hairdryer (hot but about 50 cm away) for 15 minutes. After that, I left it to dry in the air for nearly a week (this summer), making sure to open everything I could (SIM card flap, SD card but without unscrewing anything).
I turned it back on and everything worked, even the optical zoom (motor). I don't know if it’s the speed at which I reacted or the pH of the water (I didn't measure it...), but it's working perfectly now, even though I think the longevity of the device has probably been affected.
Crucial advice: remove the battery as quickly as possible and let it dry. For seawater, maybe a quick soak in demineralized water (without the battery and other accessories, of course!) could prevent corrosion caused by salt.

Right now I'm experiencing the same thing. I don't know how there got to be water, but I can only see half of my screen and it's not even been a week since it was given to me; it's my first phone. A friend of mine advised me to use a hairdryer; I'm waiting for the results. But I hope it will work before my mom notices.

J'ai un problème, mon portable a pris la flotte à travers ma poche hier, je l'ai rallumé, il marchait sauf 2 touches qui déconnaient. Hello. My phone went through the washing machine at 30°C for 30 minutes. It then faced the ordeal of the tumble dryer for 5 minutes because I noticed it. After checking if it would work by plugging it into the mains to see if it would turn on, I used a hairdryer on it. Once I did that, I took it apart (SIM card, battery, memory card...) and put it in rice (rice absorbs water) for 3 hours until now. Hi there, as previously mentioned in my other comments, my phone suffered some issues. I put it in rice that absorbs water, and it worked fine for more than a week. I left it next to the oven for 30 minutes while it was on, so it stopped working. Thinking it was leftover water, I put it back in rice, and it works again without problems; the only issue is that the camera doesn't work anymore. So    IF YOUR PHONE GOT WET, DISASSEMBLE IT (BATTERY + SIM CARD + MEMORY CARD)  AND LET IT DRY FOR AT LEAST 4 DAYS, EVEN LONGER WOULD BE BETTER. At first, I didn't notice anything and it was still working, but 40 minutes later I realized it was acting up, with some images glitching. Actually, it sometimes asks me for my PIN code multiple times, earlier it switched to English, deleted my wallpaper and everything I had in memory except for SMS, so I turned it off... Hi, so my thing is that I went to a party and I was pushed into the pool several times. I can't remember if I had my phone in my pocket, but what I do know is that I didn't turn it back on afterwards because it was out of battery. Anyway, the next day when I got home, I plugged my phone in to charge and tried to turn it on, but nothing happened except that the lights on the side lit up red (it's a Sony Ericsson W580i). Then when I tried to turn it on again, it vibrated, and the only way to stop it was to remove the battery. But just know that if it has been in the water several times, you were incredibly lucky!  As I mentioned earlier, my phone also got wet, and despite drying it out and brushing the circuits to remove oxidation: It won't turn back on ... At the same time, seawater usually doesn't forgive =S Too bad ^^

Hello everyone  I had the bright idea of taking a bath with a few people like a jacuzzi the problem is that since there were only girls with me, we kept our swimsuits on and thanks to Quiksilver for making swimsuits with pockets, but in the heat of the moment I didn’t realize that my phone was left inside 5 minutes later I jumped out of the bath aaaaaaahh and yes it was too late :(  Stage 1: in the minutes that followed my phone was all black on the screen it kept vibrating and the flash was doing SOS style  Intervention: battery removal, memory card, SIM card drying with a hairdryer  Stage 2: two hours after the sad incident I put the battery back in the screen works but turns off after the intro animation  Intervention: I leave it alone without the battery, put it in the warmth, etc.  Stage 3: after a few hours When I put the battery in it lights up animation + asks for the PIN code the problem is the buttons don’t work  intervention: hairdryer + resting in the sun  Stage 4: almost 24 hours later I put the battery back in and nothing happens :( before announcing the time of death, I attempt the defibrillator (I plug it into the outlet) BAM!! no it didn’t explode, nothing happened, it charged normally with the little drawing and everything normal I realize that all the buttons respond (meaning that when I press them, the sleep mode stops so it returns to the animation) EXCEPT THE BUTTON TO TURN IT ON yiboune  SO FOR THE MOMENT: we can say it's in a coma my questions: - does it have any chance of survival? (okay no one can really know...) - can a repair technician resurrect it? (price?) - since I’ve had it for a week (I know I’m abusing) can the warranty work? Well, I'm posting for those who might have had the same problem.  I have a Sony Ericsson Walkman W610i. It stayed in my pocket all night during a foam party. I let it dry for a month while checking if it would turn on, but nothing happened. Then I thought I had nothing to lose since it wouldn't work anytime soon, so I tried the microwave... After just one second, there was a little spark, so I immediately stopped the microwave. My phone smelled burnt, but to my great surprise, it works again!! Well, you're in quite a mess, you've done everything you shouldn't do.

When a phone gets wet, the first thing to do is remove the battery. Otherwise, hello electrical damage, short circuits, and all that nonsense. And you add to it by trying to turn on the screen.

After removing the battery, you should shake it to try to get as much water out as possible that's inside. Finish by wiping everything down with a dry cloth.

Finally, wait at least 48 hours before putting the battery back and trying it out.

For yours, you'll be lucky if it starts working again. To avoid messing up, you should ask for advice before doing anything. After that, it's usually too late.

So here is the golden rule for a mobile phone that fell into water: "PATience"!
1/ Take the phone out of the water as quickly as possible and do not try to turn it on right away.
2/ Remove the battery, SIM card, and memory card. Open the charging port, headphone jack, etc...
3/ Dry it under a lamp, hairdryer, or radiator, but not too hot.
4/ After a good half hour, let it dry in the open air or in rice.
5/ Wait a few days (3 days seems good to me).
6/ Turn it on; if it works, BINGO, if not, try for a few more days.

If this doesn't comfort all those who have drowned their mobile phones and done what they shouldn't have done:  Four days ago I dove into the pool, and I came out right after (it was just to cool off). My phone (Sony Ericsson K530i) stayed in my swimming shorts pocket for about twenty minutes :D I had the bad reflex of trying to turn it on right away when I noticed it was in my pocket (of course it didn't turn on), AND putting it out to dry in the sun, after removing the SIM, battery, and memory card.  Two things not to do :D  I tried to turn it on today, it worked fine, except there was a problem with the speaker: there was a *kkkrrrccchhhzzzkkkxxckkkrrtttzzzcckkkk* sound coming out, even when I wasn't doing anything with it.  I decided to leave it to dry for a few more days, maybe the speakers weren't dry... "Fortunately" I have an old Nokia that's 4 years old, which still works well, but it's pretty crappy^^ If my Sony Ericsson doesn't work anymore (after 1 year and 3 months of loyalty :D), I will have to keep my Nokia (I can't afford to buy another one...)  I'll keep you updated on the situation =)

I dropped my cellphone in the toilet. I rushed to take it out. I didn't remove the battery right away, but 5 seconds later it started acting up, so I took out the battery. I wiped it down and put it under the hand dryer at my school for about 10 minutes. At first, my screen wasn't working, but after the quick drying, the screen lit up but nothing more. When I got home, I put it in rice and my cellphone was working fine. Well, almost. After 3 days in the rice, there are some buttons that still don't work. It's good because before I put it in the rice, it wasn't working at all. So today, I placed it in front of the standing fan. I think I've been really lucky and in a few days it will work again. Every day, there is one button that starts working properly. I'm hoping to keep making progress like this for a while longer so I can use it again.

- Gently dry your phone with a hairdryer (Attention: Do not use maximum power, and keep your phone at a distance from sensitive circuits). Distance > 50 cm.
-Let it dry completely on its side in a dry place for at least two days.

Precaution:
- Control yourself and do not play with your phone for 48 hours. Turning it off and on again would damage it.

Hello, yesterday I was in my bath while also sending texts (I was drying my hands when I grabbed the phone) but suddenly my phone displayed a constant light (red because it's meant to show that it has network but normally it's supposed to blink) then it started vibrating. I removed the battery to finish my bath and after drying it I tried to turn it on (thinking it would work because I had the same experience with my dad's phone and it worked). But it went through different phases of rebellion:  1) the first time it vibrated like crazy.  2) the second time it displayed nothing.  3) the third time it didn't want to do anything (the battery wasn't working anymore).  4) & now it shows a dark blue screen and the flip screen is lit up! :O (yes I'm using my old Sagem MYC5-2V because my phone never gets any signal in the bathroom :) ) What’s most surprising is that when I plug it in to charge, it shows the white light (the white light that indicates it’s charging). I tried putting my SIM card in and it displayed the red light (which shows there’s network). Please help me because I don’t know what to do anymore, I really need this phone!

It didn't even stay there for 2 minutes, yet it won't turn on anymore, there's nothing, not even the keyboard. When I realized, I took out the battery right away, the SIM card, and the memory card, but then I put it out to dry in the sun and then went home and put it under the hairdryer. I also tried to turn it on about 8 or 9 times, so I put the battery back in at that moment, then took it out when I saw it wasn't doing anything. If it opens again, I managed to repair mine by placing it in a dish, buried under rice. Seal the dish well; the rice absorbs the moisture. It may take a few days. At least 3 days in the rice.
