Hello, contrary to what is written, I am using Chrome, but that's not the point. I need to use the ipconfig command and strangely when I'm in the command prompt, this command doesn't work; it reads: ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I am supposed to have all imaginable permissions.

Have a good day, thank you for responding for once.

Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello,

if this command is not recognized, it means the file is not present in the system32 folder.

Check that ipconfig is indeed located in C\Windows\system32; if not, search to see if the file exists on your hard drive, and once found, copy/paste it into system32.

Thank you, I just checked, ipconfig.exe is indeed part of system32, when I launch it a command window opens for a split second and disappears... is that normal?

You first need to open the console with the command cmd and then type ipconfig or ipconfig /all.

To know the other options, type ipconfig /?

no no, I've already done that 10 times, it returns "ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." And yet it is in system32

Do you run the command under Vista with administrator or user rights?

so where are you at?

Have you tried as an administrator? click on Start/all programs/accessories then right-click on Command Prompt then choose: Run as admin....

No need! Your system is either broken or infected.

Try this command to see the result > echo %PATH% < if it's okay, move on to the next step.

Perform a restore to a date before the issue, maybe... otherwise, you'll need to run a repair.

Check that the file ipconfig.exe is indeed located in the folder C:\Windows\system32.

If so, then type the following command: c:\windows\system32\ipconfig.exe

Hello,
If the file is corrupted and you are on Vista 32-bit, you will find a copy in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-ipconfig_...(etc)
On Vista 64, you probably need to change x86_ to 64_ in the folder name.

Just overwrite the one in system32 with this one, then test.
Please continue your research on your side.

Hello,

I also have the same type of problem under Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3:

--> Running as a user:

I launch cmd: ok

--> the commands ipconfig /all, netsat

C:\Documents and Settings\utilisateur>pconfig /all
'pconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

C:\Documents and Settings\utilisateur>nestat -n
'nestat' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

--> Test with Administrator account:
