Hi,
I just finished the 4 seasons of BSG and I have a question for the fans (or those who have seen it).
Several times a dialogue comes up between William Adama and Kara Thrace in certain episodes, I will try to put it down word for word (not completely sure though):
WA: What's the weather like outside?
KT: It's raining,
WA: Then take out your gun and go get the cat!
or something like that. I know that fans (or those who have seen it) know what I'm talking about... what does this recurring dialogue mean?
As this question has been recurring for me as well, I decided to post because I couldn't find anything on GoûtGueule...
Thanks for your insights :)
Have a good day everyone.
Logan.

Hello everyone!
YES! I know what you’re talking about.
In this scene, Starbuck goes on a "hunt" to retrieve Apollo.
He asks him that because it's "raining" pieces of enemy ships.
I think the cat symbolizes someone we are looking for, namely Apollo. And his gun represents the weapons of his ship.
I am an unconditional fan of Battlestar Galactica. Your discussion caught my eye! LOL

Doing your own research before posting on CCM is the quickest solution!
I am bad at French, but I own it! -
Indeed, around 2 hours and 38 minutes into the pilot episode, the dialogue is as follows:
-Starbuck, what do you see?
-Nothing but it’s raining.
-Alright then, draw the gun and bring back the cat.
Since Starbuck sees debris from ships everywhere while she's fighting in her Viper, I think this means she must carve her way through the mice (the enemies) and bring back the cat (her ship). -
This phrase indeed marked me. And no response in Google indeed.
But
1/ Is it a cult response from an old war movie?
and/or
2/ Is this phrase simply used to effectively present the characters and show from the outset an old and long-standing complicity that is confirmed later? It is thus clear from the beginning of the series that "Starbuck" is valued by the commander and that she is an important character, allowing her to make a remark that indicates this complicity. Moreover, in another register, the commander is thus "established" from the beginning of the series as someone in his place as a commander (in the first episode, before the line, he responds to another subordinate in a much more formal manner), but who knows how to be flexible in his decisions when necessary by replying like this to Starbuck, a trait of character that is also evident later on.
During the second "outing" of the phrase, which does not go unnoticed, that is to say in a moment of combat, the reply used in another context allows to slightly de-dramatize the situation for the viewer, and adds the type of humor that is regularly found in American series and movies..?
(In summary, the second option would simply be a stylistic effect from good dialogue writers who mystified everyone:)). -
Although I have seen all the episodes of BSG, I don't recall the dialogue you're referring to; it might not have left an impression on me.
Could you provide me with the references of an episode in which it appears?
Then maybe I could participate in the interpretation. -
Hello master :)
Well, I don't have a specific episode in mind, but I'm sure the dialogue is in the pilot episode, then 4 or 5 times in the season. Sorry I can't tell you more. It caught my attention when I heard that line, 2, 3, 4 ... times. There might be a significance with the old episodes, I don't know ... :s -
Oh, the Force is strong in you.
See what I can do, I will, young Padawan.
But beware you must, impatience and fear will lead you to the dark side. -
I will be able to put aside the dark side of the Force thanks to your teaching, Master. Even though my midi-chlorian count is as high as Anakin's, I will do everything I can not to disappoint you by straying from his more tumultuous destiny, and I will restore balance to the Force...
Otherwise, I hope you can tell me more! lol
