two graphics cards in a laptop

Question

Hello,
I have an Asus x64j laptop... which has two graphics cards visible in the device manager (an Intel Media Accelerator and an Nvidia GeForce GT 325M).
However, the first one is active and I would like to activate the second one for more power. Both appear to be functional and their drivers are up to date.
How can I do that?

Solution... Context Menu on the desktop > "NVIDIA Control Panel" > Select the task "Manage 3D settings" just to the left of the window > select the tab "Global settings" > finally choose the preferred graphics card..  ;) ;) ;)

in the device manager where you are:

intel media accelerator --> click "properties" --> "change settings" --> tab "driver" --> click on "uninstall" and then on "disable".

I can't take a screenshot, but two graphics cards appear in the device manager, contrary to what Cdiscount claims, where I actually bought this laptop.
Moreover, it's an Nvidia GT325m, not a 320... plus an Intel GMA HD!!!

Hello,

the GMA was supposed to be integrated into the motherboard, and the GT was not.
but anyway, even if it is logically active, it’s not the one that is in "master" mode, disabling it won't give you more "power."

Just make sure that the second one is already active before trying to disable the GMA, otherwise, it's normal for it to give you a black screen.

Please know that I have contacted Asus customer support in parallel, who has not yet provided me with an answer...
Finally, to answer Athena 223, how can I check (if not by looking at the poor graphic performance while using a game for example) that the NVIDIA card is indeed active?

what bothers me is the story of the gt 325 ...

did you update the motherboard drivers and the bios ones? are you sure about the 325 instead of the 320? (physically and not just according to windows info)

For the GT 325, it's Asus who certifies it for me and my device manager displays it... After that, I'm not going to look inside the laptop...
For the BIOS and motherboard updates, how do we do that?

For now, Asus says that the Nvidia activates automatically when the laptop is plugged in and that the card needs to be set to performance mode. The problem is that once these settings are made, the result is very disappointing, meaning it's much less playable than with a "weaker" configuration (P7450 processor + Nvidia GT 220).
Anyway: I still don't understand why a GT 325 + i3 350 processor doesn't allow playing COD 6... while a GT 220 + P7450 processor does???

Hello everyone.
This problem is not isolated; if you check out the forums, it's always the same issue, all ASUS and the GT 325 M, for the past 15 days, still not resolved (apparently), I'm inclined to think it's a manufacturing defect (...). I'm going to have it checked tomorrow by one of my friends who knows more about it than I do (computer fixer ...).

Hi Podjo, same PC as you, same cards and same problem...
However, I can use the Nvidia, and I’d be happy to share my trick with you.
First, remove ALL the recent drivers you installed, they messed things up in a panic, and reinstall the original driver you can find on the Asus website: https://www.asus.com/fr/
Once that's done and you've restarted, right-click on the desktop, choose: NVIDIA Control Panel, manage 3D settings.
Here you can select your games from the dropdown menu, then at 'select the preferred graphics processor for this program' you can finally select your NVIDIA card.
I must warn you, however, that this is only valid for games for which you have the executable; I recently acquired a game by downloading via Steam, but I never succeeded in launching it.
I insist again, you really need the original driver, no updates, otherwise the option: 'select the preferred graphics processor for this program' will disappear.

I actually have two graphics cards (an ATI and the other Intel HD graphics, Windows 7 64 bits) the problem when I right-click on my desktop to go to the resolution settings, I have two screens with the option "extend these displays" (so I don't have access to my whole desktop) when I choose to display only on 1 of the two screens. It shows black. Can someone help me?

I have the best solution! Just don't download the updates from the NVIDIA & AMD websites, but rather from the computer manufacturer's website!
