Black square instead of cursor

Hello,

I've had a problem for a while and I need help because I've tried everything and nothing works.
Actually, when I write in Windows Live Messenger to enter my email or when I type in the search box of Windows (in start), a black square appears instead of the little line like this:
My configuration is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.

Thank you for helping me
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.5.8

To remove this black rectangle, in the Registry Editor, expand the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
Double-click on value 29 and replace the line:
%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,50
with:
%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,51
Close the Registry Editor.
Restart the session for the change to take effect in the system.

Much simpler with the following path:

Start Menu --> Control Panel --> Ease of Access Center --> Ease of Access Center --> Set High Contrast --> Set the thickness of the blinking cursor

Hello everyone,

I am currently facing a problem, but after "Accessibility Options", there is no "Configure high contrast". When I type "Configure high contrast" or "High contrast" or "Contrast" in the search bar, the only option I have is "Turn high contrast on or off" (under Accessibility Options), and it redirects me to the theme customization page.

Does the registry workaround work? If so, why is the topic not marked as resolved?
