What to do after a low-level format?

Hello everyone,

After having some issues with my second hard drive (D:) (Maxtor 250 GB), I was advised to perform a low-level format. This I did using an appropriate Maxtor software: PowerMax 4.21
Everything went well.

The problem is that now, although my drive is still recognized and detected in the BIOS, it is no longer visible at all in Windows! (PS: I am using Windows 2000)

I imagine it needs to be formatted (preferably in NTFS), but how can I do that if I can't access it from Windows?

Thanks in advance for your help
Configuration: Windows 2000 C: Maxtor 80GB D: Maxtor 250GB

Hi Amnesiak!

Your hard drive may be recognized in the BIOS, but that's not enough. You need to declare it to Windows! Since you've performed a low-level format on your hard drive, you need to create a primary partition on it to see it in Windows!

Go to Control Panel, Computer Management, Storage, and then Disk Management. Select your disk by right-clicking on it (a context menu will open), and click on create a partition or new partition. Follow the on-screen instructions, and normally, you should be able to use your hard drive again.

Clear, not clear?
If you have a problem, don't hesitate!

I don't know if it's the same in 2000 as in XP, but if it is, you go to "control panel" "administrative tools" then "computer management" then "disk management" and there you should see your disk and be able to format it, but I'm not sure it's like that in 2000
