HP C4280 Printer - Paper Jam.

I had the same issue. While reading the forums, I found an answer.
Open the left side and press the transparent roller (which should be slightly dislodged). And now the printer works.
It's all bonus for HP, with this kind of problem!

The message "paper jam" indicates a malfunction that can have two origins. In some cases, it is a broken sensor: this is the infamous black piece. In my case, it is a white plastic gear that drives the paper and becomes detached from its shaft. The malfunction is relatively easy to solve permanently. You need to remove the left casing to discover the drive mechanism. You can take the opportunity to replace the star screws with crosshead screws. In the center, there is a white gear that is no longer connected to its steel shaft (see photo - average quality!). Initially, you can push this piece back onto its shaft with a screwdriver; this should be enough to get the printer started again. If you want a longer-lasting intervention, you can very easily buy a circlip (type Circlips Modelcraft) or make one (which I did) with a split washer that you tighten and force onto the shaft, pushing it firmly against the gear. This has the effect of maintaining sufficient pressure for the gear to drive its shaft and thwart this malfunction, which undoubtedly relates to planned obsolescence.

Hello, I also have an HP Photosmart C4280 printer. It made machine gun noises for two weeks and today it’s impossible to print; it inserts a sheet halfway and then it says paper jam. I've checked the little black piece and it’s not broken! I would like to disassemble the left part to try to find the problem, but for now I can't manage to unscrew it. I’ll try again tomorrow, we'll see!

Well, I've disassembled everything, pressed all the rollers that weren't unseated, but nothing works; the paper jam is still present.

So if someone has tried this solution that doesn't work for my case and has searched like I have and called HP who told me that my printer is toast and since it's no longer under warranty, I need to buy a new one (great)

I had the same problem with my HP PHOTOSMART C4280 printer:
For a few days, I had a loud rattling noise when the printer was still printing.

Then I got the error message "paper jam". The printer no longer works
1 the sheet engages
2 the sheet advances and stops halfway through its path,
3 Message: paper jam (However, after checking, no paper was blocking the printer).
4 I press the cancel button
5 The sheet comes out of the printer correctly,
6 The printer takes another sheet and stops again, paper jam.

It is a tiny broken black plastic piece that is responsible for the problem.

After gluing the piece back, the printer works again. So this issue can be repaired with a small star screwdriver and a good tube of superglue 3
But it won't last forever.
The manufacturers at HP have definitively designed this printer to break down sooner or later.

The piece is very visible, attached to a small white spring behind the left side of the cartridges.

Hello, I had a jam problem with my HP C4280. The plastic part is visible and roughly resembles a small hammer with a return spring on the cartridge side. This part had fallen into the ink receiver felt (4 mm). I glued it back but it wasn't easy. This fragility on this model is unacceptable.

I have the same problem with an HP C4280. I found a piece of the black plastic part. I glued it back without really knowing what angle to give it. When I restarted the printer, the piece broke again. I think it was the cartridge carriage that broke it while moving to the left. Can this part be disassembled? How should it be glued so that the cartridge carriage does not touch it while moving?
