alphabetical order in Word Solved

Question

Hello everyone!

I'm using XP and here's my problem:

I have a (huge) list of names (one per line) and I would like to sort them alphabetically

when I had Windows 98 there was a function to do this:
I just had to select the text and request sorting, but under XP, I only have the sorting option in "table," and when I try to sort, I get the following message:

Document too large for Word

Do you have a solution? If so, thank you in advance.

If ever for a list in Word, the sort option in the table tab works very well too.

Sure, I'd like to organize my library in alphabetical order. I would like to mention Excel, but I am on Vista, so I can't install Excel. Are there other software options that would allow me to do this?

Select the text from the list; Under the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Sort; In the Sort Text dialog box, under Sort by, select Ascending or Descending.

Who can tell me how to sort in ascending order with Excel keys that have numbers and letters
example1; 01a8b0ff, 01258700.122ab204
for numbers only it's okay for numbers with letters also okay
but in my numbers I have 3 types: only numbers, only letters, and numbers + letters
I've seen that by clicking on function you can choose from a multitude of logical choices sum etc....
I hope a math whiz or someone good at Excel will give me the solution

Otherwise, I found a solution that works but is lengthy: create new files in a folder
and name each key for each new file and then sort by name and it puts everything in order whereas Excel does not put numbers and letters in order.

With Open Office: Tools --> Sort (after having previously selected the text).

Hello,
I would like to add for those who might be in my situation,
Being on Linux/Ubuntu and not Windows, I couldn't benefit from the trial version of OpenOffice, and the appweb on skydrive did not offer the sorting option!

I thus discovered that I could use "LibreOffice Writer" (go to Tools then Sort...)

To find it, you can view your software by hovering your pointer over the bar at the top of your screen in the tab "Go to..." then in "Computer/File systems/usr/share/applications" or in the program "Ubuntu Software Center" (section "Installed"), or else by right-clicking on "Home of the dashboard" > "applications"
