Repair audio headset cable

Hello, I have a cable-eating cat at home. He very kindly attacked my headphones, they still work but not on the left side anymore. The wires are chewed up. The right side is only held on by the tips of its wires. Can it be repaired, and is it complicated to do it yourself?
Thank you.Configuration: Windows Vista

A lighter .. and it works without any problem .. the wires are often covered with "fabric" insulating them from each other ...
I just repaired my headset in 10 seconds :)
Without a soldering iron, just with electrical tape .. Soldering with tin on such small wires .. no wonder it makes big blobs!

      It worked very well!
However, I notice a SLIGHT crunching in my left ear :P

      Hi,
the jack of my PX 360 (Sennheiser) has also been chewed up
could you explain your method with the lighter in a bit more detail?
my cable is unilateral (it's connected to the left side), there are three wires inside.
      Thanks

Thank you for the lighter idea :D I just tried it and it works really well! Phew, it saved me a headset :)
As for the method, the explanations from Ph and xaverbaf below are more than sufficient.

Thank you a thousand times, I avoided an unnecessary expense because I had a pretty good headset that my rabbit had chewed on one of the wires… Well done!
