Problem with dollar symbol

Hello,
I need help getting rid of this $ symbol that appears automatically every time the cursor stays inactive; it shows up and gets inserted into my messages, and I have to delete it before sending.

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

    I have roughly the same problem; when I start an application where you can type (IE, Word, etc.), the dollar sign (sometimes the underscore, sometimes the 8) automatically fills the text area or the page. Any ideas? I thought it might be a virus, but the antivirus didn't find anything!
