Reverse hierarchical numbering

Hello,

I have never seen this on Word 2003.
I applied hierarchical numbering on a document that has 4 levels of headings without any issue.
Upon opening a recent file, I noticed that the numbering is reversed; for example, at level 2 of chapter 1,
I have the following numbering: 1.1 - 2.1 - 3.1 - 4.1 instead of 1.1 - 1.2 - 1.3 - 1.4.
The same phenomenon occurs at level 3 and level 4.
I erased all the numbering and reconfigured everything, but nothing changes.
Is this file bugged or is there some setting somewhere that reverses this numbering?
Thank you for your responses.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

    Hello,

It seems that your numbering is done incorrectly.
Especially when all the levels of numbering have the same style, in this case for your document, Arabic numerals, it's not easy to see.

Go back to the numbering, and choose for example letters for the 2nd level, you should see what's wrong, namely that the numbers have not been put in the correct order.

Otherwise, try to send me a small part of the file, just so I can see how your numbering is done.

      Hello Marina,

Thank you for your help - yesterday I managed to adjust everything by starting from level 2 with the structure of the hierarchy - everything is fine and it's thanks to you for the idea of replacing the numbers with letters - that was the starting point of my reflection and the various tests carried out to achieve the perfect result, maybe see you soon - HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hello and happy new year to you

Indeed, I know that when a hierarchical numbering only contains identical numbering styles, the order in which they are placed is not visible... It's not very practical! ;)

So I will mark it as Resolved.
