Optical converter > RCA

I have a LED TV that was given to me.
I haven't used the headphone jack, which worked:
nor the digital audio out optical output; in that case, I would have needed a digital to analog (RCA) SPDIF converter, but I haven't tested it.

I bought a male to female SCART adapter with two female RCA outputs (R and BL), followed by a male to male extension and connected it to my amp, and everything works for 9 euros.

The system defined by a SCART/RCA adapter is a good idea in itself, but it has significant losses in sound quality compared to HDMI.

I have the same problem (which shows that the question wasn't so stupid). The dct-3 seems a bit pricey to me... Is there anything similar for a more economical budget?

if the DCT-3 box hasn’t been sold yet, I’m your man:
I currently have an HD flat screen TV that I’ve connected to my Freebox via HDMI.
For sound, I’m currently outputting to the TV and I want to switch to my hi-fi system which only has RCA outputs.
The only option for me then is this box which would allow me to run an optical cable from the Freebox to the DCT-3 and output two RCA connectors from the DCT-3 to the hi-fi system.
That’s right.
