Game runs at 720p while capable of 1080p

Hello, here is the response, you need to force the PS3 to 1080P

Let me explain, go to PS3 Settings then Display Settings then Display Settings select Custom HDMI and check only 1080p and 576p which is actually grayed out, confirm and you're good to go.

This method also works for the first Call of Duty MW 1.

It works for me, you can try it.
Be careful with your other games, you need to reactivate 720p mode or you'll end up playing in 576p!!!

I have the same issue as you,
I just bought Assassin's Creed II and it shows 720 while my TV is a Sony Bravia Full HD (so no issues there) and a high-end HDMI cable.

I have the same thought as you, the image seems perfect, but I just want to know why it displays 720p when the PS usually runs at 1080p.
And the game supposedly runs in 1080p...

Is it an error and is it actually running in 1080p?

I did some research actually, forcing 1080P is strictly useless because the console actually does the upscaling... if you're at 720P then it's the TV that does the upscaling

so whether it's the PS3 or the TV, I don't see what difference it makes, anyway all the games that are compatible with 1080P (being 720P)

but raising the resolution can lead to more tearing

after that it depends on the screen

basically only the 1080P games (behind the box) are FULL HD, the others are HD ready

I think some of you haven't read the messages properly (not to mention you haven't taken any French classes).
We're talking about AC2 which is supposed to run at 1080p.

I made this small parameter modification to force 1080p.
At first, I had it at 1080p 50Hz, and now I have it at 1080p 60Hz, go figure.

Not to mention that the first time I hooked everything up, I was able to play at 1080p 60Hz without changing anything.

There really seems to be a problem somewhere, but at least I'm not the only one in this situation!

Yes, they are connected with an HDMI. To be honest, I think it’s just the information provided by the screen that is misleading because the image is already really beautiful. I don't see how it could be better!

Personally, I think that Sony limited the compatible games to 720P to avoid overheating the console too much and damaging the GPU.

Well, for me, the opposite is happening!! ;O)

Let me explain. I have a new Sony Bravia LCD screen. It is connected to the PS3 and Belgacom TV (digital channel) via HDMi cable.
For the past week, my PS3 games are running in 1080i, but as soon as I switch to Belgacom, my image is in 720p (you can clearly see a difference from 1080i). Yet, Belgacom has always run in 1080i and I haven't made any changes to switch to 720p... of course, it's impossible to go back.

I have a more problematic issue, my TV takes into account 720p (I think), 1080p and 1080i (since my already HD channels, like M6HD for example, are in 1080i). I also have a PS3 and an HDMI cable, but no matter the channel, I have a black screen. I think I need to make my TV display 720p or 1080p, but I don’t know how to do that. Anyway, my PS3 doesn’t work via HDMI, what can I do? I tried holding the reset button for 5 seconds, going through the SCART port (saying yes to switch to HDMI because the cable was recognized), but nothing works. It’s not my cable or my TV since my Xbox works fine without needing any settings or the SCART port. What can I do to switch my TV to display 720 or 1080p, please?
