Problem with the game the queen of spades

Solved

Hello,
Hello everyone.
Until now, the card game "The Queen of Spades" was available on W98.
For a week now, when I click on this game, the game window opens ...and it crashes the computer, everything freezes: stuck.
I have to do a reset to restart the computer.
Could someone give me an idea or a step-by-step guide to recover this game?
Even at 65, it suited me well!
Thanks to all those who want to lend a technical hand.
Best regards
Daniel
Configuration: Windows 98 Firefox 2.0.0.20

Hi,

I don't remember everything about Windows 98, but you can repair the system files.

You go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

Then in the window > Tools > System File Repair

Keep your Windows 98 CD close by, you might be asked for it during the repair.

If everything works fine afterwards, and you can't find the game of Spades, you can download it here > https://www.playok.com/

There are also other fun games on this site :)

The link I gave you is for playing online :) Can you still try that to play with a partner online?

To retrieve the Windows 98 games, you need your CD; the games are on it.

After the repair, follow the instructions from "servet" here > https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-723076-jeu-de-windows-98-disparu#2

Hello Marie Jo
Thank you for your responses; I'm even a bit surprised (pleasantly) that it's a woman who is replying.
I am W98 and I only want the game "the queen of spades" which I already have on the computer, but when I launch it, the computer freezes and crashes. I'm not looking to go online to play, just for myself. At my age, I'm a selfish bastard!
I've applied what you wrote to me:
Programs/Accessories/System Tools but from there, I don't have the window you mentioned; however, I have a whole list of which the main ones are:
Compression Agent
Maintenance Assistant
MS-Dos Commands.pil
Disk Defragmentation
DriverSpace
Windows Explorer
System Information
Disk Cleanup
Windows Home Page
Scheduled Tasks
Etc...
Could it be the section "Maintenance Assistant"?
I must say that I quickly get stuck with computers; I tried to learn on the fly: it's not easy!
Thank you for your kind help.?

Hi,

Well, I'm trying to help :)

So I remember... You're going to open > System Information to get the window I was talking about.

And then it's > Tools > Repair System Files....

Hi Marie-Joe
Well, there you go, it's working again!
As luck would have it, my antivirus Avast is expiring, and magically everything is back to normal! I conclude that it was indeed the Avast antivirus that was restricting certain functions. For the past few days, it had been counting down the days of my subscription, and I was experiencing more and more "crashes": and now, miraculously, ever since it has been disabled, everything is fine.
Thank you for your understanding and involvement.
Best regards
Daniel
