Hello,
so here's my issue:
I bought COD Modern Warfare yesterday (yes, I know, it's about time...), the installation goes smoothly, and the solo campaign launches and plays perfectly...
But when I feel like trying the multiplayer, I click on the icon, a black screen appears, and after a few seconds, it returns to the desktop.. Frustrating..
I reinstalled the game: nothing.
I updated my hardware: nothing
However, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit (in beta), has anyone had the SAME issue???
Help please!
Thank you all.

Hello everyone,
I had the same problem as you before.
My setup: W7 "Home Edition" 64 bit + Core 2 Duo + ATI 4850 card.
Drivers: all in 64 bit.
The game ran fine in solo mode but crashed as soon as I launched multiplayer mode. My game has been working well on XP 32-bit for 2 years.
I plugged a jack into the microphone socket when starting the game and "voilà, it works". It's completely silly, I know, but it works for me. So give it a try, it doesn't hurt. -
Same here, I'm on the 32-bit Family Edition of Windows 7
I have a quad-core 2.0, a GeForce GT 9600 graphics card with 1 GB of memory for the card and 4 GB for the PC RAM
The single-player game works fine, but the multiplayer crashes; when I launch it, it says "iw3mp.exe has stopped working"
If anyone has a solution, please don't hesitate :) -
Well, I found it
after trying everything
reinstalling the game
punkbuster
changing file name extensions
audio mixing -> not found on my Vista
etc.
I finally tried plugging in a mic without believing it would work -> and it does!!!!

Hello
I contacted Activision support in the USA and they replied that the game is not compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. They had me try a few things, going into msconfig (Windows button and R at the same time) and disabling all Windows settings. The game works but there's no sound and I'm unable to connect to the network. They are still trying to find a solution that works 100%. You can also try using msconfig as a base. If I find something, I will come back to give you the solution. CiaO! -
Oh yes, I forgot to mention that when I launch multiplayer mode, it tells me:
cod 4 was not exited correctly last time, etc.
When in fact, it's the opposite of course.
Thank you. -
Good evening,
I have the same problem as you; I am running Windows 7 32-bit version
I have: a Core quad processor at 3.00 GHz
4 GB of RAM
Graphics card 9600 GT 512 MB
I have tried everything: updating DirectX, installing game patches, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but nothing works. If anyone has a solution, please, I’m interested :)
Thank you -
I also have problems with Windows 7 64-bit for this game...

I just installed Windows 7 64-bit (I have a powerful PC) and I wanted to reinstall COD 4 on it! So in single player it's fine but in multiplayer it's exactly the same as you, Ozzt!
Please Help!! :( -

Hi everyone, yes I confirm what rotorfreron did. I just reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate in x64 and the same problem occurred, so I tried the same manipulation and it worked, go figure why! The laws of computing..... ;)

I had the same issue, and seeing everyone asking the question, I'm going to tell you how I did it.
I simply read the post a little higher up, and actually, it's true that it's really simple, you just need to plug in a microphone. I plugged mine in, and bam, the game started. So I don't know if they'll fix it in the next updates, but at least my game works :)
