Startup error with Daemon Tools Lite

Solved

Hello,
Recently, I can no longer launch daemon tools lite 4.3, I get the message:

"This program requires at least Win2000 with SPTD 1.51 or newer.
The Kernel debugger must be disabled."

I have WinXP Pro SP2, SPTD 1.6 and I don't really understand what the kernel debugger is.
I have reinstalled daemon, I even removed it from the registry, the installation goes well, but that's it.
I don't know if it's related, I recently replaced AvG free with Antivir and Ad aware.

Thank you for your attention.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.5.3

This bug occurs if you had an old version of Deamon Tool installed before the upgrade to Win7 (normally, with a fresh installation of Win7 there shouldn't be any issues if you installed the latest version directly).
After scouring various forums and sites, here's the simplest thing to do:
    1) Uninstall your current DT (restart later when prompted)
    2) Launch regedit and go to

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\ Services\sptd"

and delete the entire "sptd" folder

    3) Reboot
    4) Download the latest version of DT and install it
    5) And it finally works... at least for me

To be tested elsewhere to see

I have Windows 7 and I installed the program correctly with the special installation for Windows 7, and I get the same message.

Thank you so much, your technique works great!
Sam--> you need to type "regedit" in the Windows search bar (not the internet, go to the Windows icon and there’s a blank space where you write regedit)
Then, like me, if it won’t let you delete the sptd file, just delete all the files in the folder, but not the folder itself :)

Great, I found it! I just had to change the permissions. Daemon Tools is working.

I don't see what you mean by changing the permissions, could you explain to me how to do it?

regedit then in the top menu: edit.permissions.full control
and after you can delete everything

I do not recommend this technique; I tried it and then my computer had a total deactivation of my antivirus, so a total restoration of the computer!!
I would be more in favor of the first method but by getting additional information from other sites like the daemon tool forums, for example.

I don't see how to do that because I don't understand if I need to uncheck the total control box or something else......???

    Thank you, Charl. Wait,

It worked perfectly for me after three restarts: uninstalling daemon, restarting, regedit -> deleting the "folder": HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\sptd
    restart.
    Reinstalled the new version
    restart

    and everything works. Great.

This bug appeared after my upgrade from Vista to Seven.

    Hi everyone.
As for me, despite all the good advice given on this forum, I couldn’t manage to erase that damned key, even in “safe mode.” So I deleted the subkeys one by one. I ended up with 2 empty keys. I reinstalled DT lite, and then, oh miracle, it works perfectly (as a world-famous comic book character would say).
So thank you all for your help, it has been a great support for me....

Good evening, if it can help some, I had the same problem, I tested all your solutions and nothing worked, still the same error (...win2000 with SPTD 1.60...)

I read on an English site that the problem could come from zone-alarm, I uninstalled it and then miracle Deamon Tool works.

Good evening, I had exactly the same problem ("This program requires at least Windows 2000 with SPTD 1.60 or newer. The Kernel debugger must be disabled"). I uninstalled Zone Alarm and now DAEMON Tools Lite works.

Try deleting the folder in SAFE MODE without FAILURE from Windows; another program on your PC may be using SPTD and therefore blocking its deletion. Also, make sure that you have admin rights on your user account...

Even in safe mode, I can't delete the folder. And I am the only user.

    Good evening everyone,
I encountered the same issue today. I tried the first method described above which resulted in a failure... I then uninstalled ZONEALARM TOOLBAR and miraculously everything is working smoothly.

What to do if it's a portable version? I can't delete it since it doesn't appear in my programs, I even tried to remove SPTD but it shows an error: deletion impossible...
I have been using W7 from the beginning and I've had this issue for a while now.
What is the solution in this case? Thank you

I also wasn't able to delete the folder (but I'm not sure if I followed the procedure to the letter or not), but he emptied it for me, so a blank folder works too...

Thank you for this post that saved me time...
(I had installed my old version 4.10 (for Vista), while we are now at 4.30)

Okay, it works with this trick, thank you very much.

(I also had to delete the keys one by one and leave 2 that wouldn't go away).
