Hello,
Since I struggled a lot and now I think I really have a good grasp of the thing, I offer you a bit of help for using this DVD recorder whose manual is completely incomprehensible even though it's so easy to use!
Good luck!

Hi, I have the same Samsung SH-893 device as you, and I can't replay the programs stored on the hard drive. Every time I press LIST, LIBRARY/TITLE, a message appears: This message is:
DATA SYSTEM TRANSFER FAILURE
PLEASE TRY AGAIN AFTER TURNING OFF THE POWER.
What should I do? I'm completely lost
Thank you in advance

Hello,
I personally bought an SH-893 on http://www.e-fidelite.net/comparateur-disque-dur-multimedia and I can't figure out how to make a delayed recording...
Apparently, I’m not the only one in this situation. Is it possible to create a little tutorial on the procedure to follow?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I just bought this device and I can't adjust the channels of the channels.
I connected the player with an HDMI cable to my SONY LCD TV KDL40W5500.
The device works because I can play DVDs, but I can't record the TV.
If anyone has a tip or has encountered this problem before?
Thank you very much

Hello,
I just bought the Samsung DVD-SH 895 (it's the same as the 893 but with a higher recording capacity), and I'm having the same issue—during the automatic channel search, no channels are detected. The manual search isn't much more successful since I don’t know the data to enter; in short, it’s a real hassle! I’ve connected it with an HDMI cable to a Samsung LED series 7 TV and I also tried connecting it with the provided yellow, red, and white cables, but no results! Given the date of this message, I hope you've found the miracle solution and that you’ll be kind enough to share it with me! A big THANK YOU in advance!

Good evening
I had the same issues. Here are the solutions I found:
I have a Canal+ satellite decoder and I didn’t have a “rack” antenna, and THAT'S THE PROBLEM BECAUSE:
- the Samsung recorder has its own TNT tuner. So you can connect the recorder to the decoder, which means you have to watch the program you are recording at the same time (you can't watch another channel while recording a different one).
- on the forum, I was given the solution: buy a TNT antenna for the recorder. I did this, and that's when the hassle began because: TNT is divided into bouquets (TF1, M6, W9 // France2, 3, 4, Arte // and digital channels like BFM or NRJ12) and each bouquet has a different transmitter (in my case, one bouquet depends on the transmitter from the Eiffel Tower, another from the Mantes transmitter, and the third I don't even know), WHICH MEANS I CANNOT RECEIVE ALL THE CHANNELS OF TNT. So I chose the France 2 bouquet...
In summary, the Samsung recorder needs its own antenna.
CONNECTIONS:
- Recorder: TNT antenna input, SCART to Canal+/sat decoder, HDMI to HD TV, and antenna jack to TV
- Decoder: satellite antenna input, SCART from Samsung recorder, HDMI to HD TV
POSSIBLE RECORDINGS:
- If you want to record a satellite or Canal+ channel: set your Samsung recorder to AV2 and your decoder to the channel you want to record. Then, you can watch a TNT channel through your TV's tuner, or watch the channel you are recording, or go to bed.
- If you want to record a TNT channel (for example France 2): set your recorder to France 2, and you can watch another channel via your decoder.
IMPORTANT: PROGRAMMING A RECORDING. You need to turn off your recorder for it to start recording at the specified time; otherwise, it won’t do it.
FINALLY, this is a message for SAMSUNG... YOUR MANUAL IS USELESS
Good luck

Hello
First of all, happy new year
Your problem is simple
If HDMI is connected, make sure the antenna cable is plugged into the TV
Turn on the TV and the sh893
Switch to HDMI 1 using the TV remote
Wait a bit for initialization
Perform a digital channel search and set up the TNT on the recorder (automatic)
After that, there shouldn't be any problem
The documentation isn't too complicated if you start right from the beginning without skipping steps
Check if, like me, your recorder turns on for a few seconds precisely at 8 AM
I have the sh 893 + KDL40V5500 myself
How to fix that????

Hello, I was having problems with pixelation and recording times shorter than programmed, along with "pause" and "rec" blinking during recording. After months (!!!) of reflection, I just understood that switching the TV input to HDMI (if an HDMI cable is connected) or AV (if a SCART cable is connected) makes everything work perfectly for recording: image and duration are spot on. But then, I end up with a TV dedicated to this VCR. How do I explain to my 65-year-old mother that she needs to switch the video source every time to either record or watch TV? I also conclude that there is a conflict between the TV tuner and the VCR tuner because recordings don't happen (or have indescribable issues) if the source remains on DVB (which is the TV's DTT source); this is the problem I took so long to consider! Well, I'm just starting out, but still, this device can only serve as a VCR, not even as a tuner for the TV when it's on. For the price and the electronic components it contains, is this really up to standard?
1) I haven't looked at the different qualities yet.
2) Remember to read the note on p79 about the possible formats for simultaneous reading with a recording; I missed it on the first reading.

Hello, no problem
Like you, I just bought the SH 893 (good equipment)
but here it is, (because there always has to be a but).
1. I can't change the recording mode (XP – SP – LP – EP - FR) during a manual programming on the hard drive.
2. I can't copy a program or a TV movie from the hard drive to the USB stick, even though the manual mentions this possibility on pages 06, 08, 13, 98; you also mentioned it in the chapter (specific functions); (the seller too).
3. Could this be misleading advertising and/or presentation from Samsung?
Thank you in advance for enlightening my little lantern and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello
it would be nice to have some help because I just bought this device but it’s very complicated! After trying to record using the timer function, it doesn't display anything. I get messages like load-setup returning to the clock on the DVD recorder but there’s no grid on the Samsung TV to access the recording.

Hello,
I really think I'm not good at this..
I bought a Samsung SH893 DVD recorder yesterday.. and .. I can't seem to do anything
I first did all the initial settings without too many problems.
Now, when I get to page 56.. I can't even play a disc: when I press the OPEN/CLOSE button, whether on the remote or in most cases, absolutely nothing happens (except my player shows OPEN) or in some cases it displays LOAD and a "no disc" message...
If you could help me,
Thank you in advance!

Hello everyone,
I have a little problem. I just got the recorder, I programmed it, etc. When I want to make a delayed recording, I set everything up, but at the moment of recording, the little clock blinks and... I have nothing recorded, I don't know why. Does anyone know why?

Hello everyone,
I have a problem:
I have a recording that was stopped due to a mistake on my part; since then in "my library" "my tracks" I have a file named "RECOVERY" that I can't delete, every time I try it tells me: "no track list found"!
Does anyone have any idea?

Hello,
I have two problems:
- 1/ I can't create chapters even though the chapter creation is supposed to work (page 49 of the user manual). I want to specify that I only record digitally, no analog channels.
- 2/ My recent Samsung TV connected to the recorder turns on by itself every morning at 8 AM while the recorder itself does not turn on. Before the installation of the recorder, this did not happen.
Thank you for your responses.

Hello,
I fixed the issue with my TV. Indeed, I disabled the anynet communication and my TV no longer turns on at 08:00 in the mornings. Incredible because now the function is obsolete while originally I bought the player so that I would only need one remote control...
Does anyone know the answer for the chapters?
Thank you!

I had the same issue and found the answer on other forums: you need to go to Menu -> settings -> Manual Clock. Then in the line "Date/time to set/Auto," you need to set the "Auto" parameter to Off.
Since then my TV won't turn on.
Before that, I had also set the Automatic Clock parameters to Off, but that wasn't enough. You really need to change the "Auto" value in Manual Clock.

It's my turn to struggle with the connections of this player. Let's start from the beginning because I'm lost. How should I connect it, knowing I have an HD TV with an HDMI port? If I only connect this HDMI cable, will I be able to record a program while watching another one at the same time?
Should I instead connect the TV antenna socket to the player, an HDMI cable between the player and the TV for recording, and add a SCART or a regular antenna cable between the player and the TV, and thus select the antenna socket as the source on the TV to watch live TV while the player records another program via the HDMI cable?
That's what I did. It seems to be working, but when I go through the player, I can no longer change the channels (Prog + or - on the remote control). I can only do it on the TNT channels by going through the menu and guide, accessible only on the TNT and not on the analog channels.
Thank you in advance....

Hello,
First of all, thank you for all these explanations that are much clearer than the manual!!
Just a small clarification, when I try to copy a title from the hard drive library to USB, the recorder only gives me the option to copy to a DVD - I couldn't find the option to directly record to USB or an external hard drive (FAT 16 or 32 and even NTFS)
However, I have no problem transferring or playing DIVX from USB to the hard drive or a DVD
I noticed there’s a notion of PTP for USB - Is it important?
Can anyone help me because now I need to get TV recordings out of the recorder onto an external medium and I can't find a way (except DVD, but the files are too large)
Has anyone managed to transfer and/or record to USB or external hard drive???
Thank you very much in advance for your help

Hello,
I would like to ask for your help because I connected my new device without too much trouble, but I am surprised that I can only record the channel I am watching. Is this normal, or is there an additional connection I need to make?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
I just acquired a Samsung DVD recorder DVD-SH895.
I transferred old camcorder tapes to the recorder's hard drive, then I made a copy of the file onto a DVD+R. So far, no problem ... When I tried to finalize the DVD, at the end of the 100% it gives me the following message: "Unable to finalize the disc. Please try again after cutting the power," and then the DVD ejects ... When I put it back into the player, it tries to read it without success since it is not finalized ... I can't access any menus to retry the finalization ...
I've also unplugged it several times but nothing works ...
Please help me.
Thank you
Jessica

I didn't quite understand where your problem was situated.
Here are some clarifications:
There are 2 ways to program a delayed recording:
- either through the program guide (the channels recognized by the DVD and correctly captured, or the free TNT captured)
in this case, go to MENU/GUIDE, select the program and record. A small red clock appears.
The programs recorded this way are visible in "recording by minute," recorded list.
- or through programming
go to MENU/RECORDING by Minute/, enter the first line, fill in the fields and confirm
Be careful: only the captured channels can be recorded.
If you want to record a channel from a decoder, select AV (for me it's AV2) and don't forget to also program the decoder to switch to the right channel at the specified time.
The programs recorded this way are visible in "recording by minute," scheduled list.
IN BOTH CASES, you must not forget to TURN OFF THE DEVICE COMPLETELY otherwise it will not record!
If this did not resolve your issue, try to be clearer about what you are struggling to do.

after several attempts it works... (it was the scart cable connecting Canal + to the DVD that wasn't functioning properly)
for my situation, the channel number must be set on the Canal + decoder as it directs the channels from the DVD recorder which is set to av1
however, regarding the sound, it's not great on channel number 4 of Canal +, the volume is very low, almost inaudible, so I adjusted the sound in my decoder preferences as well as on the television, but it doesn't make much difference because the volume has to be turned all the way up, which results in a background noise louder than the dialogue of the film
is this the same case for everyone?

Hi,
I also bought this DVD player but in Italy, so the manual is in Italian....
Could you help me because I would like to record VHS onto DVD using this player? What connections should I make and what steps should I follow???
Also, why can't I read a recorded DVD (I recorded a show that I want to keep) using the player on my PC? I used a DVDRW but it’s not possible to read it on my PC to work on it later?
Thank you very much if you agree to help me!!!!

The manual is on the Samsung website in French:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=fr&CttFileID=2210172&CDCttType=UM&ModelType=C&ModelName=DVD-SH893&VPath=UM/200906/20090605082342437/01785A-SH893,5,7-XEF-FRA_0526.pdf
To record from VHS: I haven't tried it, but it seems that you just need to connect the two devices via SCART, select the AV1, 2 or 3 source, and record on that channel. Exactly like with a decoder, actually.
For DVDs, I haven't looked into this function at all. I know there are many possible formats (the most compatible being DVD + RW) and that you have to juggle with the options (whether to finalize the disk or not, etc.). Try to check this section in the manual.

Hi,
for the VHS, it's very simple. Connect the SCART of the VCR to auxiliary 2 at the back of the player. The SCART AV1 should be connected to the TV, then turn on the player and with the remote, select AV2 for the VCR selection and start the recording. For compatibility, I have the same issue as you. After burning, it's unreadable on another player or the PC. A real nightmare, even after reading the manual every which way, nothing works; however, my DVDs are perfectly compatible and readable by it. So, I gave up on burning VHS to DVD. I recorded all my movies on the hard drive of the player and will connect it to my PC with a capture card to retrieve the image and edit it. Very long, I admit, but at least it works without having to pull your hair out.
Best regards

Hello, I recorded a show on my Samsung SH 893 and I would like to copy it onto a DVD-RW, but the device tells me that there is insufficient space. How can I copy my show by splitting it in two for example (onto 2 DVDs)? While reading the manual, I saw several operations to do (splitting, creating a new play track, etc.), but I’m afraid of making a mistake and deleting my recording. Thank you for your help.
I used regular DVDs on the PC and it even crashes. Do I need to activate or deactivate the V-Mode or something else to make this damn DVD play everywhere?
To Luis,
Have you tried changing the USB cable? The manual states that a slightly damaged cable can hinder the recognition of the USB device.
To Noguy and Morfalou 17
Regarding the recording quality in manual programming, I have no problem selecting it....I modify it with the up and down arrows, just like selecting the channel...
If you use DVB automatic programming, you cannot choose the quality. It automatically defaults to FR (flexible recording = Flexible Recording), see p81 footnote
To Morfalou17,
No lies from Samsung (but I admit they do confuse us well!!), you can only transfer from HDD to USB JPEG, MP3, and DivX files (see p13). TV recordings are not part of this, so it's not possible.
The recording section of the manual only mentions transfers to HDD or DVD as well.
My article did not clarify this, I will update it gradually based on my tests to make it clear.
As for the seller, I think he was mistaken in good faith and reasonably assumed that all transfers were possible.
Besides, I believed it too, but...
It's the same for simultaneous playback and recording: not all combinations are possible.
Example:
play a TV recording on HDD and record TV on HDD at the same time: possible
play a DivX from HDD or USB and record on HDD at the same time: not possible
play a DivX from HDD (USB not tested) and record on DVD at the same time: possible
BUT, in message 21, Luis says he transferred to USB.....it would be good for him to join the discussion because since it's impossible, he must have made a mistake or misspoken... ;-)

BUT, in message 21, Luis says he transferred to USB.....it would be good for him to join the discussion because since it's impossible, he must have made a mistake or misspoken... ;-)
Hello npb
I am a "newbie" when it comes to all the electronics terminology?
I have a Samsung LCD TV, Canal +, and a Bose Cinemate (as I’m a bit hard of hearing)
My VCR being dead, I bought a SH 893 -- but I've been struggling for two days with the connections and setup!!! All the terms are like Hebrew to me?
Can you make me a diagram or give me practical explanations?
At Darty they charge for this kind of work by a technician: 89 euros an hour!!!
Thank you in advance for your response.

I’m happy to try to help you, but I need more information.
Are you planning to connect your TV via SCART or HDMI? This is important to know what audio connections
you need. What type of cables does your audio device have? (number and color) I don’t know anything about that, so it’s important for me to know in order to go through the manual.

- For the USB cable, it’s sorted; it works with the cable from my camera.
- As for the USB, it works well both ways (host connection?), but be careful, I could only transfer files (including DivX) that I had already transferred to the SAMSUNG in the "user" folder to an external hard drive or a USB stick.
On the other hand, I still haven’t figured out how to extract recordings (TV or from a VCR) in DivX format, either via USB or to a DVD in ISO mode; I can only extract them by creating a video DVD.

Hello,
I've had the sh-893 since yesterday.
I struggled a bit to connect my external hard drive via USB due to it being formatted in NTFS rather than FAT32.
That problem is sorted, but I have a quick question.
Is there a way to read vob files from this external hard drive via the USB connection?
It only reads divx.
Do I need to transfer the vob files to the internal hard drive?
Thanks in advance
