I didn't quite understand where your problem was situated. Here are some clarifications:  There are 2 ways to program a delayed recording:  - either through the program guide (the channels recognized by the DVD and correctly captured, or the free TNT captured) in this case, go to MENU/GUIDE, select the program and record. A small red clock appears. The programs recorded this way are visible in "recording by minute," recorded list.  - or through programming go to MENU/RECORDING by Minute/, enter the first line, fill in the fields and confirm Be careful: only the captured channels can be recorded. If you want to record a channel from a decoder, select AV (for me it's AV2) and don't forget to also program the decoder to switch to the right channel at the specified time. The programs recorded this way are visible in "recording by minute," scheduled list.  IN BOTH CASES, you must not forget to TURN OFF THE DEVICE COMPLETELY otherwise it will not record!  If this did not resolve your issue, try to be clearer about what you are struggling to do.

I have Canal+/Canasat and the sound is very good.  Keep checking the audio options, your problem likely comes from a bad setting (look at DGS, Dolby, etc...) It would be helpful to check right away if it’s not the SCART connection by trying another one.  You should also be able to control the free TNT channels via the recorder. Did you do the auto search?

I also have the channels via the DVD  but to access Canal + I need to use the Canal + decoder channel  I disabled Dolby which slightly reduced the background noise then in the sound menu of the Samsung TV by adjusting the equalizer myself but still, I have to turn up the volume all the way and I also adjusted the volume of the decoder  but it's true that professionals are more accustomed to it and they know exactly what level it should be at to get the best sound

Hello, Thank you already for this offer, because this notice is totally incomprehensible! Here is my problem: I can't set up the channels on the player/recorder; I have the Alice box, so I connected it as shown in the diagram "connect to an external device (VCR or satellite receiver)." But I have tried several times to do the auto scan and nothing happens, the player/recorder detects nothing... Just a small clarification: I don't have a wall socket for the antenna, my only way to access TV channels is through the Alice box. Thanks in advance!

Hi,   It's normal that it doesn't detect the channels via the Alice box. It can only detect the channels through its TNT tuner. So, at home, it doesn't detect certain multiplexes, and therefore, it doesn't have France 2, for example, which I have to record on AV and not directly on the DVD tuner.  For the rest, I think it's like with the CanalSat decoder. To watch via the player (I don't know what that's for), you need to select AV2 (maybe AV1 or 3 depending on the connection) by pressing the source button, and change the channels on the Alice box as you did before. To record, select AVn° as the channel and program the box as well.  I hope I have helped you.

Indeed, there is no dual tuner, so you cannot record from the decoder and watch another channel from the decoder at the same time (that's what the paid option "recording" from CanalSat is for, for example).  However, for certain channels, you can work around the issue:  - record the decoder by setting the recording to AV, then on the TV, watch through the TNT source or TV of the TV  - record the TNT detected by the DVD and watch the decoder normally  I hope I was clear enough.

p78 of the manual for a direct or scheduled recording Just go to menu/title/choose the program currently being recorded (recording) and confirm or play as for any recording; the STOP button only stops playback  (or timeshift function p79 on the remote control timeshift button (if I understood correctly, it's a kind of 30-minute buffer) The difference with the normal REC recording is so subtle that it escaped me...)  Overall, using this device is very intuitive. When you're trying to do something, be as logical as possible and you'll find the solution very simply just like it was the case here!  also remember to read note p79, on the possible formats for simultaneous playback with a recording, I missed it on the first read.

A Anne 31  For issues with simultaneous playback with recording: see compatibility p79  It is said that you can read a DVD (understanding vob files) or directly from the hard drive but not divx while recording at the same time.  If you try to read a divX burned on a DVD, you cannot, according to the manual, record at the same time on the hard drive.  However, you can read a divX from the hard drive and record on DVD at the same time.  So the trick is to always have a DVD + RW on hand and to do the necessary operations!  I hope I have helped you.  P.S.: I never use DVDs but a USB stick (no burning required, just drag and drop on the PC). I will soon test the playback of a divX on USB while recording from the TV on the hard drive. I will let you know if it worked.

To Luis,  Have you tried changing the USB cable? The manual states that a slightly damaged cable can hinder the recognition of the USB device.  To Noguy and Morfalou 17  Regarding the recording quality in manual programming, I have no problem selecting it....I modify it with the up and down arrows, just like selecting the channel... If you use DVB automatic programming, you cannot choose the quality. It automatically defaults to FR (flexible recording = Flexible Recording), see p81 footnote  To Morfalou17,  No lies from Samsung (but I admit they do confuse us well!!), you can only transfer from HDD to USB JPEG, MP3, and DivX files (see p13). TV recordings are not part of this, so it's not possible. The recording section of the manual only mentions transfers to HDD or DVD as well.  My article did not clarify this, I will update it gradually based on my tests to make it clear.  As for the seller, I think he was mistaken in good faith and reasonably assumed that all transfers were possible.  Besides, I believed it too, but...  It's the same for simultaneous playback and recording: not all combinations are possible. Example: play a TV recording on HDD and record TV on HDD at the same time: possible play a DivX from HDD or USB and record on HDD at the same time: not possible play a DivX from HDD (USB not tested) and record on DVD at the same time: possible  BUT, in message 21, Luis says he transferred to USB.....it would be good for him to join the discussion because since it's impossible, he must have made a mistake or misspoken... ;-)

Hello, I've had the sh-893 since yesterday. I struggled a bit to connect my external hard drive via USB due to it being formatted in NTFS rather than FAT32. That problem is sorted, but I have a quick question. Is there a way to read vob files from this external hard drive via the USB connection? It only reads divx. Do I need to transfer the vob files to the internal hard drive?  Thanks in advance

I didn't try to read the vob files directly, neither via USB nor through the hard drive because I think it's not possible. However, with Nero, after creating a DVD from these files, there was obviously no problem.

Hello, I also have a problem with this player. I wanted to record the VHS onto DVD. So far, so good. However, the finished DVD is unreadable on any other device: PC, standard DVD player, Xbox360. Only the SH893 can read it, and even then, one of the finalized DVDs cannot even be read by this same player. HELP!!

Hello, I also have an issue with my Samsung SH893. I schedule a recording on the hard drive and it works. The problem occurs during playback: when I try to view my recordings via menu<library<title, the page displays for 1 second (but I have time to see that my recordings worked) and then it disappears and it goes back to the channel I was watching before. The same happens whether I go through Disc menu or Title menu. So I can't watch my successful recordings, and I'm starting to pull my hair out... Please help me Thank you.

When I watch a canalsat channel (av2), (canalsat => scart => [/contents/unix/unix-shell.php3 sh]-893 => scart => TV), the [/contents/video/affich.php3 image] is much less sharp than when I watch canalsat via TV. How is it at your place? Would the image be sharper if I install an HDMI socket (canalsat => scart => sh-893 => HDMI => TV)? It's a pity that sh-893 doesn't have an HDMI input.

Hello npb, I don't know if you still respond to questions, maybe someone else will have an answer, but I'm giving it a try anyway ^^  My setup consists of the following elements: Orange satellite decoder on AVv2 of the SH893 SCART AV1 from the SH893 to AV1 of the TV Antenna cable, digital signal only (no analog channels received or very poor quality) connected to "input from antenna socket" (output 9 from the manual to the non-connected television, apparently it doesn't do anything if there are no analog channels)  When I cycle through the different sources on the SH-893 I do receive TNT on DVB-T (PR Number), nothing on DV and AV3 is normal The satellite channels on AV2 But on AV1, I have no signal? Can you tell me why?  When I turn off the SH893, I no longer receive anything on AV1 of the TV, is that normal? In TV mode on the SH893, I only receive the AV2 signal In summary, I cannot watch TNT channels if the SH893 is off I read your message that to start a recording, the SH893 must be off, so I can't watch TV if I want to start a program. The cable coming in is a screw cable that connects to the decoder. - The recorder does not recognize satellite channels.   Be careful, it will never do that! It only recognizes the channels it can receive by itself.   I repeat: we watch CanalSat on the TV like before (by connecting the satellite antenna to the decoder)  and when we want to record CanalSat, we set it to AV2 on the DVD, select the channel on the decoder (or program it) and watch another channel on the TV (I forgot to mention that you need a TV with TNT, which you normally have with your HD TV)   You have to juggle the sources on the DVD and the TV, it's a bit hard the first few days, but afterwards, we get it, it works!

I recorded it in XP on the hard drive, and I want to copy it in LP to the DVD (which should allow for 4 hours of recording). Is this possible? Hello,  I just bought this player for my mother. I chose it for one essential feature: time-shifting. (to answer the phone among other things)  I am surprised by the complexity of using the time shift: Press: - 1: the HDD button - 2: press time-shift (to activate the live control function) - 3: select 'on' with the arrows. - 4: press 'ok' - 5: hit pause.  By the time I do all this, the phone has stopped ringing... especially for my mother!  I am used to using TNT players/decoders with live control function (9 HDD decoder, Club-internet decoder, HDD Phillips recorder): you can just hit 'pause' during a show to trigger the system.  Is this function accessible directly with a single button? Do I have other options?  Thanks for your answers.

It no longer appears in the "scheduled list," nor does it show up in the "recorded list," or in the "library." Hello! I just bought this home recorder, everything is connected to my setup as follows: Samsung LCD TV + TNT-SAT decoder (no antenna) and the recorder  The decoder is connected to AV2 of the recorder via SCART, then the HDMI from the recorder is connected to the TV. I didn't have a TNT-SAT, so I put the SCART between the recorder and the TV, and now when it's off, I can see the TNT channel from the decoder. But I have a problem on how to switch to AV2 on the recorder in order to record a TNT channel while watching something else on my TV (without TNT), I don't understand! I'm not clueless, but here... If I press source, it changes the source of my TV and not the recorder. If I turn off the recorder and turn on the decoder, I can see the channel from it, but I can't start a recording. I find the manual not very clear on this point, or at least it's not that simple.  Thank you in advance!   *Oh! Another question, why is the image and sound different between receiving through the recorder or just through my TV? Let me explain, from the TV I only have the 6 channels (satellite) and I have a slight noise which I don't know what it's from... (the depths of the galaxy lol) but through the recorder, it's worse! It's more high-pitched and the image is clearer too.

Hey!  Damn, I just found out! I need to press the TV/DVD button to select the one I control, and then only once I'm on DVD, press source to set it to AV2. (It's not quite explained this way in the manual)   Uh, silly question, can I schedule a recording at the times I want and select source AV2? (Well yeah, I will only be recording from AV2 (TNTsat decoder) because without it, it's not great.)  And I can't display the guide (TV program) on the recorder, only on my TV I can!

Hello  I have a recording duration problem for broadcasting on DVD for digital channels Indeed, for this type of channel, the quality automatically sets to FR so as to supposedly adjust best according to the size of the media  However, for recordings of shows like series where there are several episodes in a row (approx. 2h50), I never get the end because the device chooses a quality that does not allow fitting on a DVD  It’s as if it calculates the quality only based on the first episode, resulting in not enough space for the rest I do not schedule the recording via the guide but manually, but the device still must take some information at the beginning of the recording regardless of the programmed recording duration  I called customer service who couldn't provide a solution.........................  I’m fed up with this recorder with its huge mechanical noises and its incredibly long initialization time, unadjustable copy quality on DVD, etc., etc.  I compare it to my previous Sony and there’s no comparison!!

I am recording directly onto Memorex DVD+RW, and when I try to play them on another DVD player, the image is all choppy and so is the sound??? I thought it might be due to the type of recording like in the past with VHS recordings SP (standard play) or LP (long play), but I can't figure out how to adjust this setting on my recorder. yes you can, directly through your TV if it has a TNT decoder, otherwise only non-TNT channels. just like with the VCR, actually it’s exactly the same! remember when we record and we change the channel via the VCR, of course not! we switch to the TV and well it’s still the same.

Hello,  I've been tearing my hair out for the past two days, I don't know what to do anymore, so I'm turning to people more competent than me... Let me explain my problem: I simply can't display any menu from my recorder on my TV, nor play a DVD.  I have a DVD SH 893 connected to a Samsung LCD TV as follows: Antenna cable to the recorder Recorder antenna connection to TV HDMI cable between recorder and TV.  I activated the Anynet function  Everything worked perfectly for a month, and now for two days, without having touched the connections, it no longer works; I can't display any images from my recorder. Whenever I try to switch to the recorder, the HDMI connection symbol appears, then the message "no signal" appears. If I try with a Scart cable instead of the HDMI, it works. So I first thought there was a failure in my HDMI cable, but I tested with another cable and I have the same problem! I unplugged everything and plugged it back in, nothing works  I also tried the recorder on another TV, and it works, no problem...  I don't know what else to test, please help!!! Hello,  First of all, thank you for this offer of help and all the tips shared in this forum. It has solved quite a few of my issues! However, there is still one that I haven't yet seen mentioned in this discussion.  My setup: TV: an old Phillips cathode ray tube (yes, it still works!) TNT decoder by Sagem Samsung SH 893 DVD/Recorder  Everything is connected via SCART to each other, so I can easily switch from one to the other.  My problem is as follows: My connections must be correct since I managed to make scheduled recordings on the hard drive. However, there have been several occasions where recordings stop well before the expected end (the recording is only... 17 seconds instead of 3 hours). I should clarify that, of course, my hard drive is empty initially (so there's plenty of space available) and that all conditions were met for it to work (recorder off, no manual stopping, and moreover, the recordings took place in the middle of the night, so without watching other channels). I would like to point out that these recordings were for programs from the TNT channels via the internal decoder of the recorder.  What would be the possible leads to understand where these interruptions are coming from?  Thank you for your help! Pierre

Well, it's written on Samsung's website ;) So, I formatted my DVD, burned it, I put the DVD in, loading icon in the top right, 20 seconds later the DVD comes out and I don’t know if there was an update. It's impossible to see the firmware version in the menus...  Do you have the same procedure on your side?

My problem is as follows: I recorded a program with parental controls enabled. Now that I want to watch it, it's impossible. However, I have turned off that lock. Do you have a solution? Hello,  First of all, thank you for all these explanations that are much clearer than the manual!!  Just a small clarification, when I try to copy a title from the hard drive library to USB, the recorder only gives me the option to copy to a DVD - I couldn't find the option to directly record to USB or an external hard drive (FAT 16 or 32 and even NTFS)  However, I have no problem transferring or playing DIVX from USB to the hard drive or a DVD  I noticed there’s a notion of PTP for USB - Is it important?  Can anyone help me because now I need to get TV recordings out of the recorder onto an external medium and I can't find a way (except DVD, but the files are too large) Has anyone managed to transfer and/or record to USB or external hard drive??? Hello, I have a 897, and I want to burn recorded shows from the hard drive to a DVD. Everything works well when I use DVD-Rs. When I use DVD+RWs, the player cannot read the DVD it just burned once it has been ejected. If I finalize the DVD before ejecting it, I still can't read it on the player, but the DVD is fine as I can read it on my computer. Has anyone experienced this issue? Should I return my player while it's still under warranty? Thanks.

Hi,  I have a connection issue with this Samsung SH893 player. I have a Canalsat decoder, a Samsung TV, and this player. My connection is as follows:  Canalsat to SH893 player via SCART, then from the player to the TV via SCART on my ext1.  My problem is that when the player is off and Canalsat is on, I have no signal on ext1. If I turn on the player, I then get the Canalsat channels on my TV. Where could the problem come from?  I should mention that I used to have another Samsung DVD player, and with the same connections, with the player off, I had the Canalsat channels on the TV.  Thank you.

Simply a bad reception: check the antenna; The DVD's TNT decoder is much less powerful than that of the screens. Be careful not to schedule a recording on TF1HD or any other HD channel! It doesn't work!

Hello,  I just acquired a Samsung DVD recorder DVD-SH895. I transferred old camcorder tapes to the recorder's hard drive, then I made a copy of the file onto a DVD+R. So far, no problem ... When I tried to finalize the DVD, at the end of the 100% it gives me the following message: "Unable to finalize the disc. Please try again after cutting the power," and then the DVD ejects ... When I put it back into the player, it tries to read it without success since it is not finalized ... I can't access any menus to retry the finalization ... Hello, I just went through these 6 super interesting pages but they don't address my little issue, which is quite simple. My Samsung recorder is connected to my TV via the HDMI output of the recorder and the HDMI1 input of the TV. I can't access the recorder's menu (library...) without first selecting the HDMI1 input on my TV, it's not a big deal but I think the activation of the recorder's menu should take control over the TV, right? I have another TV with a Panasonic recorder and it works very well; activating the menu takes control of the TV without having to change the source beforehand. Thank you, Laurent

Hello,  I recently bought a SAMSUNG set:  - the UE32C6740 TV;  - the HDD/DVD recorder SH895.  The installation went perfectly. No recording issues.  My only problem (for now): Initially, I scanned for channels on the TV ==> received all the channels. Then, I connected my recorder and scanned for channels again ==> it found all the channels!  Unfortunately, I went back to my TV and now many channels are not working anymore. So, I started a channel scan on the TV again. And this time, the TV cannot find TMC, NRJ12, and Direct Star.  Do you have any idea if there’s a way to recover these channels? I'm not sure this works.  To be honest, it's better to return this recorder and buy another brand. This device is very limited. No option to record to DVD any signal coming from AV1 or 2 No option to change the recording format when using the DTT (FR mandatory) Limitation for recording on USB (not all formats) DVD playback issues on PC (not always, I admit)  Samsung's customer service is awful and narrow-minded.  Personally, I am very disappointed with this equipment and regret realizing it too late to return it within the legal timeframe.  K

I prefer a "Samsung" recorder since I already have a TV of the same brand (LE32D550ZF). At first, I turned to the "Samsung Blu-ray 3D Recorder BD-D8200." I'm not sure, but from what I understood, it doesn't record those channels? My girlfriend has the "SH 893," but she doesn't live in the same department and doesn't have CanalSat or Canal+. So if someone could confirm this for me or has tried it, that would be great to let me know. If so, I'll buy it tomorrow, lol!  ps: Ah, it was so much easier with VHS. We were told that technology would take us into the 21st century. Of course, the quality of images and sound is amazing. But I say that too much technology kills technology.
