Sound from only one side of the headset?

Hello,
So my problem is that when I plug my headphones into my computer, I only get sound from one side. The issue isn’t with my headphones; they are brand new and I’ve tested them on other devices (iPod, another computer, stereo...) and sound comes out fine from both sides.
It’s also not a compatibility issue between the headphones and the computer because I’ve tried with two other pairs of earbuds, same thing, and the speakers too.
I don’t think it’s a loose connection either because the sound is clear, no crackling, and even when I fiddle with the plug, there’s no effect, no crackling, nothing.
Moreover, I’ve had this issue for a long time (in fact, I can’t remember the last time I plugged in headphones with sound from both sides, but I don’t do it often so...)
I don’t remember how I did it, but in the control panel, you can test the right and left sound from the computer. And here’s the surprise: while I thought I would only hear the right sound test, I hear the sound from both the right AND the left... But all in the right earbud (I don’t know if that’s very clear?) I think that if it were a loose connection, I would hear the right sound in the right earbud and nothing in the left, right?
Also, when I listen to a song, for example, with my headphones, where the sound is in something I don’t know what that normally has the voice on one side and the instruments on the other, I hear everything, but from just one side. And when I listen to the same song on my iPod for example, I do have the voice on one side and the instruments on the other.
Anyway, I assume it’s a setting issue, but I haven’t found anything via the control panel, and even changing random things doesn’t change anything (yeah, well that’s normal since it’s random).
Otherwise, the computer speakers work perfectly, right and left, no problem when nothing is plugged in...
So, if you could help me, that’d be great because it’s really annoying after a while to have all the sound coming from one side...
