Boot and BIOS access impossible...

Solved

Hello,

I am reaching out for your help to solve an unfortunate problem that has occurred and whose reason still eludes me...

The facts are as follows: I am the happy owner of a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P PC that came preconfigured with Vista. However, since Vista is a bit too heavy for optimal gaming comfort with WoW, I started to replace it with XP Pro (a detail that is of no importance, but you never know ^^')

Everything was going wonderfully! However, disaster struck when I booted my PC, which informed me that an important file (or document) had been damaged and advised me to repair it! But, I can't undertake this operation since I don't have the time (probably because I didn't set my PC to boot from the CD drive first, but from the hard drive..).

So, I try to access the BIOS (delete key, I've verified, I'm not mistaken about the key ^^) but, unfortunately, it's impossible for me!

I'm caught off guard, do you have a solution to propose?

Thank you for taking the time to read!
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.0.12

    Good evening,
On this PC, yes I think so. Could there be any connection with this fact?

    well it's not looking good...

if you have a USB keyboard, there's a good chance that's the cause of the problem; if you can get a keyboard with a PS2 connector, that would allow for process of elimination.

    Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to write ^^'
Well, what I would like to do is repair Windows XP... but since the PC boots directly from the hard drive, I can't use the CD. So, I need to access the BIOS. But that's impossible for me.
And as you probably know, the tower doesn't have a port for a PS2 connector keyboard ^^'
If you have any idea... I'm all ears :s

What do you currently boot up to when you start your computer, XP, Vista, or nothing?

    Hi,

aside from the Delete key, try using the keys: F1, F2, F12, Escape.

    Erf...

Unfortunately, I can't plug this type of keyboard into my desktop... in fact, they didn't provide a port for it.

I'm out of luck on this one...

So to start on your XP CD, at startup tap the F12 key, select the CD drive and press Enter.

As for me, I would rather try to repair Vista because I'm not sure that XP can go on a SATA hard drive without additional drivers (complicated for me).

    Hi,
If you can open your tower (don't forget to unplug it), look inside, you'll see a small battery about 2.5 centimeters in diameter, remove it, next to it you'll see a small jumper on some tiny contacts, change the jumper's position, that is to say move it to the right or left depending on where it is placed, and after a few minutes (between 5 and 10 minutes) put it back where it was and replace the battery, which will reset your BIOS to default, and therefore you should be able to boot from your CD.
    See you!

@ Luko: Thanks for your advice! But I had already tried unfortunately, no change ^^

And for XP, it worked perfectly, I had all the drivers and everything =)

@ Admiralc: Okay, I'll try that ^^ Thanks

If she has Windows XP Service Pack 3, there is no problem with the drivers, but she will need to download the SATA drivers from the motherboard's website and put them on a floppy disk that she will need to insert when prompted during installation.
    See you later!

Otherwise, if you can't boot from anything, you can still restore without a CD and reinstall XP alongside Vista.

        1. Turn on your computer
        or:
If the computer is already on, turn it off, wait a moment, and turn it back on.
        2. During boot-up, press the F8 key repeatedly until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. You may need to repeat this operation until you can open the menu.
        3. In the "Advanced Boot Options" menu, the "Repair your Computer" function is offered. If it's not the case, select "Repair your Computer" using the up and down arrow keys and confirm by pressing the Enter key.
        4. As soon as Windows has loaded a few files, the "System Recovery Options" screen appears. Under "Select a language," choose the language, and under "Choose a keyboard layout," select the keyboard layout you are using. The language is usually automatically recognized by the system and grayed out. Click "Next."
        5. Under "User name," type in your username and the "Password." The username is also suggested in the dropdown menu, which you can access by clicking on the black triangle. If you haven't set a password for the selected user, leave the "Password" field empty. Then click "OK."
        6. In the next "System Recovery Options" menu, select the "Fujitsu Siemens Computers Recovery" option and the associated point "Easy backup and recovery of your system."
        7. Select "Restore factory default settings" and click "Next."
        8. In the "Restore factory default settings" menu, select under "Select source" the option "From hard disk (recommended)," and confirm with "Next."
        9. The following message alerts you that all data will be lost. Once this message is confirmed, your system is restored. At the end of the restoration process, a completion message will be displayed.
        10. Select "Exit" to finish the process.

Thank you Luko, but neither the delete key, nor F12 nor F8 work, so I can't proceed... I'm, how shall I put it, well... stuck.

Well, I don't know, I don't have any ideas at the moment except for the console, but you need to boot it up to use it.

Are you sure that your XP is a bootable XP? If it is not bootable, you will need to obtain a bootable one if you have a legal license.

@ Luko: The link is not very useful to me since I don't use Vista.. However, thank you for your effort =)

@ Admiralc: It is completely bootable; I use the same one on other PCs ^^

In your departure message, your original system is indeed Vista!!
The burned console must be done on another PC, even XP, and used on your Vista that won't boot.
But if you can't "boot" from a CD, it's true that it doesn't help much.

      Just in case

To boot from a bootable CD, you need to follow these steps.

1 Insert CD 1 (and the following ones, when prompted) into the drive.
      2 Turn off the computer.
3 Restart (with the CD still in the drive).
4 Press any key when prompted on the screen.
      5 Follow the on-screen instructions.

The computer may restart several times and will prompt you again to press a key; this should not be done, it only needs to be done once at the first startup (in step 4 of my explanation).

Luko, indeed, my starting OS was Vista but it's no longer the case. I replaced it with XP ^^

I know very well how to boot from a CD ^^' The only problem is that I can't. I don't have the time > Black screen.

There you go, I'm sorry for putting doubt in your mind ^^'

    Re....,

try this at your own risk, it works on IBM PCs and other brands:

Start without the keyboard plugged in, if the BIOS warns you that the keyboard is not connected, plug your keyboard in at that moment and you might automatically gain access to the BIOS or the screen will display the key that allows you to access the setup.
