MPMAN MP160 stuck on welcome screen Solved

Question

Hello,

I just bought an MP3/MP4 player, the MPman MP160. I transfer my files to the player and when I try to turn it back on, it gets stuck on the MPman welcome screen and won't turn off. I have to press the reset button to turn it off. The problem persists when I turn it back on. I just exchanged it in the store and I am facing the same issue with the new one. Either I am doing something wrong or there is a real problem with this type of player.
Have you experienced this kind of problem and what can be done?

My son had the same problem this morning: when he tried to turn on his MP 160, the home page kept displaying, the computer didn't recognize it, and the reset button only allowed him to turn it off, but every time he restarted it, it was the same problem.

While reading the forum, I tried one of the proposed solutions, and it worked.

The procedure is as follows:
- go to the mp-man site http://www.mpmaneurope.com/downloads.aspx
this link takes you directly to the download page,
- click on the name of your MP4, the MP 160 is the 10th one with the MP 150
- then on the right in the firmware section "how to unlock the MP 160", click on "details and downloads", it will take you to the download page, or click on the following link for faster access

- at the bottom of the page, click on download
once the file (MPMan_Firmware_554) is downloaded, open it and then open the MP 160 file, read the small notice to avoid mistakes, then double click on the "mpman" file and choose extract all.
this allows you to completely decompress the file.
- open the decompressed file (MPMan_Firmware_554) and do the same thing (open the MP 160 file, read the small notice to avoid mistakes, then double click on the "mpman" file) until the update starts.

however, all the files that were added to the MP4 have been deleted, but it's a small price to pay since the MP4 is working again.

I have a microphone and my computer has two inputs for my microphone, the problem is that the front one  doesn't work, but only the one in the back works. I just bought one (8GB). I don't have this problem, but I notice that when files have just been loaded and you turn it on, the home screen stays frozen for about ten seconds (instead of a few seconds) before switching to MUSIC mode, etc. The following power-ons go smoothly. So, wait 15 seconds, and if it still doesn't move, try holding down the M button (at the top left).

The mp4 gets stuck if you press and hold the on/off button for too long.  As soon as the screen starts to light up, you need to release the button.   To unlock it, well, you have to wait. It doesn’t happen in 5 minutes. But I don’t have the exact time. I’d say 3 or 4 hours. It’s long, and there's no other solution that I have.

Yes, it's really, really a scam. My red mp 160 4 go is also stuck on the start-up screen!! I admit that it's super, super stressful, and this situation makes me want to smash it on the ground. I don't have the guarantee because I threw away the receipt without knowing I would get scammed. I kept it hoping that one day it would work again by itself. If your mpman160 is stuck (at startup or during navigation), restart your device using a needle. But above all, let it charge (via mains power or USB port) for a long enough time, as freezes most often occur when the battery is low.

Same - stuck startup screen - tried everything... nothing worked. However, the MPman team wrote this to me.

"If the reset of the player doesn't work, you can try formatting the
player with the mpmanager program provided on the cd rom received during your
purchase.
The product registration is a registration of the program and not of the
warranty of the player.
Regarding the warranty, if you can't find it, we can't help you.

I am part of the MP160 blocking fraternity.

So if I summarize the posts above, to solve the problem:

- "Central button + M button sequence": Doesn't work
- Reset button: Same issue
- Formatting the player: Impossible if not recognized by the PC
- Blocking if battery insufficient: Personally, the player was "Full Charge" when I turned it on and it crashed.

And so the solution defined as "best answer": Let the battery drain completely.

We'll see tonight when it's empty :-)

I have the same problem as you, except that mine is an mpman 180, and since I bought it three weeks ago, it's too late to exchange it. Plus, I declined the warranty (it was 18 euros for a product I already bought for 40 euros), so I feel a bit cheated.

I had the same issue with my mp160 (mpman logo on the screen and it never finishes booting).
This morning, I saw that on the mpman website (www.mpmaneurope.com) there is a solution to download.
It's simple and it works! It restarts, and I copied some songs. No problemo!
It's software to download.
You just need to have a paper clip to reset it before starting;

Hello EVERYONE, I just bought my mp160 and I also had the same issue of blocking while listening to my music, but thanks to "JFDA"'s response, I can now listen to music peacefully.
Do as JFDA said to turn on your mp160 and listen to music: you first need to turn it on using the button on the side of the device, then press the "middle" button (the "pause" button), and after that press the "M" button. But before doing that, you need to charge your mp160 for at least 1 or 2 hours, but apparently, it's better to charge it for 4 hours!!!!!

Personally, it works wonderfully... MP160 8GB, at first it got stuck for a short time on the home screen, probably because of the music I had on it... Otherwise, the sound is loud enough for me, I use good headphones and it fits nicely in my pocket: light and small. Given the number of problems, I wouldn't recommend it, but it seems that the 8GB range hasn't undergone the same treatment as the others.

All unlocking manipulations prove to be useless and even worse because they delete the files contained in the device.

As for me, I bought it a week ago. At first, I charged it, but when I unplugged it, it wouldn't turn back on. So I went back to FNAC to exchange it. They tested it and told me to fully charge it for the first three times and wait until it was completely drained before recharging it for the first three times. I have a really serious problem:  I have an mpman 160  1. when I turn it on, it gets stuck on the welcome screen.  2. when I connect it to the PC, the connection image appears on the mp, but nothing (absolutely nothing) happens on the computer.  3. I bought it from France, but I don't live in France, so it's impossible to get a refund!  4. I've changed computers and I've also changed the cable. Hello,  I have the same problem except mine is an mpman mp 130 (8 GB) It gets stuck on the home page so I let it drain completely overnight and then I charged it fully but now it is stuck on charging, my computer doesn’t recognize it and I tried the reset button, it turns off but when I turn it back on it’s still the same problem. I also tried the mpman website but my computer doesn't want to download the file. Plus, it’s a gift I received for Christmas (less than a year ago) so I don’t have the receipt! Please help me!!

I managed to download the file from the mpman site but now the computer won't open it, it says: "Adobe Reader could not open mp man -Firmware-556.cpcar because it is either not a supported file type or because the file is damaged (it was sent as an attachment and wasn't decoded correctly for example)."
