Remove black bars at the top and bottom

Hello,
I don’t know what happened, but there are now two black bars of 1cm at the top and bottom of my screen. My windows are therefore reduced. I have a Sony VAIO, with Windows Vista. How can I return to a normal format? Thank you for your help!!!
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 8.0

    Have you tried to check the resolution?

      Actually, when I switch to a higher resolution, the black bars at the top and bottom disappear, but I end up with 2.5 cm black bars on the sides!!!
