Issue with Peekbox 42

Hello, I just bought the Peekbox 42 multimedia box with a 1000 GB hard drive. I have recorded over 200 video files totalling 9 GB on it. These are mainly movies made from camcorders and Super 8 cameras that I have digitized. Unfortunately, when I connect my box to the television, only 131 files appear. I have reformatted the disk but it’s still the same. Additionally, in Explorer, where I should find all the files, I cannot access them. If someone can give me the reason and how to fix it, I would be very grateful. Thank you...
P.S. I contacted the hotline, they just told me to reformat the disk.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.11

Hi; personally, I think that for some files, if he can’t see them, it’s because they are unrecognized formats. I saw this somewhere in the manual. But it could be something else!

    Hello, to address the issue of invisible movies, I have the Peekbox 42 500 Go and I couldn't watch all the films that were supposed to be visible on my TV (when the hard drive is connected), yet they were fine on the PC. So, I reorganized the files from my computer by dispersing all the films throughout the hard drive and, miracle of miracles, on the new attempt, I was able to find them all. To help you understand better, let me show you this example; formerly;

folder "film A" contained 5 films: aa, bb, cc,

I split this folder by dispersing the films aa, bb, cc across the hard drive - (instead of grouping, you disperse) .. when you connect the device to the TV, it automatically sorts each file into each selection (video, music, etc...) and there you go.

Now I would like to ask a question; I watched a few films on my hard drive connected to the TV and about an hour later I felt like it was overheating too much and the image tended to cut out .. it's very unpleasant ... no fan .. is this normal or is it an anomaly?? Thank you for your help if there are any solutions.

Thank you first of all to Fred for answering my question and for providing a solution. I haven't tried it yet, but I can say that the partitions on the hard drive don't work... still only the 131 movie files appear, the rest being inaccessible when connected to a TV screen. As for Fred's problem, I'm not familiar with it, and yet I left my Peekbox 42 on for quite a while and the temperature is normal. It's warm, of course, but the casing is not excessively hot. Personally, I received my Peekbox ready to use, with the hard drive formatted (only one partition). However, there may be some leakage in the power supply system because I feel like a slight current is passing through the casing; I sense weak vibrations and the USB port seems to have little electrical charge, even when changing the polarity of the power plug (I simply turn the plug around). This must be due to poor internal assembly, but I'm hesitant to open the casing to see what's going on inside due to the warranty, of course. In any case, thank you again Fred, and keep me updated on the progress of your problem; I'll do the same on my end. Cheers!

      Hello.
I tried your method but it's impossible to see all the movies on TV. By sorting them by folder, recently, some files are no longer visible. (my hard drive is bursting at the seams).
      Do you have a solution?
P.S.: I already tried formatting it and reinstalling everything but the problem is still the same.

    Hi,
I haven't distributed the files. I'm exceeding 131 per folder. But I'm not using the "movie" icon, I'm using the explorer icon instead.
With "movie," we view "pages of 131 files," but if we scroll down to 131, we move to 132... without being able to go back to number 1.

With explorer, we can view without any issues.

The only problem I had was a permission issue; the files need to be readable by "everyone," otherwise, they can't see them (right-click, properties, security tab).
I've just noticed an annoying bug: occasionally, when we select a movie, it selects the next one instead.
Lastly, on a few movies, there's a vertical white line completely on the left side of the screen in S-video.

    Hi.

I had the same problem as you.
I found a solution: create several folders on your peekbox (e.g., movies from A to C, etc.) and place your films there. Normally, when you connect your peekbox to your TV, you should see the different folders through "explorer" and thus all your movies.

Thank you to Lolo for answering the question regarding the Peekbox 42, as I indeed have the same problem as you. I have 250 films spread across three folders named film1, film2, and film3, and when going to explorer by pressing "home," I can find them but can only access the first file, while the others remain blocked and their content cannot be read... I don’t know where to find the solution to access these files. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Hello everyone, Sudberry for the update ??... So since I modified my files, I can easily find them from the TV, and I watched a movie without any issues, the hard drive held up and didn’t heat up too much... So for my part, it’s something to keep an eye on and if it happens again, I think I’ll try to contact the manufacturer "peekton"... does anyone have their number??? A toll-free hotline would have been welcome!!.. Thanks in advance..

Salut à tout le monde, moi je reformate directement les films au format avec Free Download Manager ou encore avec Rippit. Après, je n'ai pas de problème de codec ou quoi que ce soit, vous devriez tester.

    Hello everyone,
Like you, I have several files that appear on my computer but not on my peekbox. I made the folders disappear and tossed everything I had into a jumble. Not very practical, but at least readable. I also discovered that we have a much longer folder list for films by using the long right arrow key on the remote. It allows for page scrolling. But that's still not enough because I'm really missing a lot of movie files. So the same problem remains unsolved.

Thank you for your explanations, but I am intrigued by the format of the films... we are talking about AVI files because I haven't tried other formats. Thanks again for your observations such as the right arrow on the remote control that I haven't tested yet. Best regards and see you soon.

You need to create several folders at the root level, but BE CAREFUL: there is a size limit. So it's pointless to create 50 subfolders.

In summary: create folders at the root level that do not exceed a certain size (on the order of a few gigabytes).

It's normal, the peekbox only accepts 130 files per folder, there you go sir.

However, I advise you, if you want to keep your DDR for a long time, to make 5mm holes on one side, then position the drilling at the bottom and stick on felt pads, use 4 per pad to have a thickness
sufficient to allow air circulation. Otherwise, you will lose your discs due to heat
    that's the flaw of peekbox.

    Hello,

you won’t change anything about the quantity of the 131 files... this hard drive is limited and capped at that number, so the trick is to create several folders for video files without exceeding 131 in each, and then you will have access to all the movies.... for example: a folder "video" containing 300 films, you open a second page (This PC... peekton...) and create 2 other folders that you name for example: video 2, video 3; you drag about a hundred files into each of them, so you will have "video" containing 100 films - video 2: 100 films - video 3: 100 films ... you connect it to the TV and go to the explorer and you will find all the content that was hidden at that moment in these 3 groups. Just don’t exceed 131 in each folder.

PS: be careful, this hard drive can hold a lot of data but it’s important to organize file groupings, because if your drive has too many files not classified in subfolders, it will slow down your HDD when you connect it to the TV ... I had this issue... because I tended to send several movies, music, and photos from my computer by dragging them directly onto the HDD.

    Happy organizing!

    Hello,

you won’t change anything about the quantity of the 131 files. This hard drive is limited and capped at that number, so the trick is to make several folders of video files without exceeding 131. Only then will you have access to all the movies. For example: a folder called “videos” that contains 300 films, you open a second page (File Explorer...peekton...) and create 2 other folders that you name for example: video 2, video 3; you drag about a hundred files into each of them. This will give you “videos” containing: 100 films - video 2: 100 films - video 3: 100 films... you connect it to the TV and go to Explorer, and you will find all the hidden content at that moment in these 3 groups. Just don’t exceed 131 in each folder.

I've had this issue since I tended to send multiple movies, music, and photos from my computer directly onto the HDD.

    good luck

Hello, I'm not very skilled, but it's quite urgent. I would like to do what you said, but I really can't understand, really not! I don’t get the distribution or what you said about the work station...!! In fact, when I open my hard drive from the PC, I see all my folders: adventure, horror, action... I have 10, but from the TV, no folders appear except for the 131 random movies (all genres). So I would like to understand how to see them in Explorer???? Thank you very much!!! Urgent.

If you see the 131 files on video, then logically you should have them in explorer... the method I propose is:
just like you would organize several files and icons on your PC's "desktop," you turn on your computer and your screen is full of icons and files everywhere!!! What do you do??? If you want to keep everything on this homepage and tidy up this "mess," then you organize several files into new folders!! etc. etc. until you have many fewer icons on your desktop (it's easier to see a dozen folders each containing about thirty files, rather than having 300 files filling up your computer screen!!... well that's what you need to do on your hard drive from the PC because the hard drive connected to your TV might lag to the point of not working at all if you just drag a file from the "C" drive to the peekton hard drive. I advise you to distribute them in groups of 131 in subfolders, for example: video1 = 131 movies, video2 = 131 more movies, photos1 = 131 photos, photos2 = 131 more photos, various files, 131 files, programs, etc... this method allows you and your hard drive to see more clearly for all operations... the best solution??? As far as I'm concerned, it allowed me to visualize everything from the TV whether through the "video" file which only counts 131 movies... or through explorer which lays out all the folders contained in the peekton hard drive (the contents of each of the subfolders that I made: no more than 131...)
watch out for the formats of certain video files that are not recognized by the peekton hard drive, it might happen that you can't view or open them at all!!...
I hope this works for you.

Hello, your message is a bit unclear... are you sure you're in the right forum to provide this information about the PeekBox 42?
Indeed, there has been a firmware update for this model since AUGUST 2010, WHICH JUST REMOVES THIS LIMITATION OF 131 FILES.
On the other hand, (and without needing to partition) you should only place 4 folders in the root of the hard drive (via the PC) named as you wish but giving them the letters A-folder name, B-folder name..., and within these 4 folders, feel free to organize, create subfolders, or put everything in a jumble. For my part, I have about ten subfolders and 171 sub-subfolders (3 or 4 levels deep), and on my TV, the "explorer" function of my PeekBox finds EVERYTHING, respects my organization, and so far I haven't found any format that my PeekBox couldn't read! Whether it's VCD, VOB, or even text files.
However, I regret that PEEKTON does not indicate any of this in its user manual or on its website, and it seems they don’t even try the equipment they sell...
I hope my information will help those who have this media box since recently and spare them an unnecessary return to customer service.
