Hello,
I received a Q-media mini notebook 7" that runs on Windows CE 5.0 from France Loisirs.
Shortly after, I tried to turn it on as usual, and it displayed a white screen.
I contacted customer service, and here's what they replied:
Hello,
Please consult our website https://sedo.com/search/details/?partnerid=324561&language=fr&domain=q-media.eu&origin=sales_lander_1&utm_medium=Parking&utm_campaign=offerpage so that you can perform an update.
Mini Notebooks
Download: PDF reader Windows CE
Q-media mini notebook update application (white screen)
* Download this software and put it on an SD card
* Power on the device
* White screen
* Insert the SD card
* Reset the device with a thin/sharp object located at the bottom of the notebook
* Press the right mouse button and the power button together during startup
* The update will start
* Press the right mouse button
* The update is completed
When I download the software in question, I follow the instructions in the readme file:
1. Open the file SDUpgradeTools.exe
2. Insert an SD card into your computer
3. Press Image and select the file: NK_n170_french_2009-05-06_1.nb0
4. Press the button with the 5 squares
5. Remove the SD card after the notification
but it displays an error message:
write sectors .... failed
Do you have any solutions?
Would it work if I download Windows CE 5.0 and create an "installation CD" with my SD card (no drive)?
Thank you for your attention,
Mélissa

Hello,
I had the same issue; indeed, the zip file with the image and the software is no longer available on the q-media.eu site. Their support service is as good as this portable. I actually find it shameful!!! Fortunately, I found your post and with Google "Cached," I was able to find the page in question with the various downloads!!
Thank you, Google.
After a lot of persistence, here are some pieces of information that may help you restore your Mini Netbook 7. However, I am looking for a How-To for installing Linux on it! If anyone has an idea, thanks for your answers.
First of all, you should know that this mini netbook is a line that many brands sell in different forms:
- cnblifstyle
- alpha 400
- SurfOne
- Selar
-....
and q-media, which is a distributor.
So as explained above:
1. Download this file that contains sdtools.exe and the different .nb0 files
q-media.nb0 and sd_fra_azerty.nb0 or even sd_nl_qwerty.nb0 (link below)
2. Connect your SD card.
3. Run the sdtools.exe to prepare your blank SD card.
4. In the program, click on IMAGE and select one of the three images.
5. Click on the left button (image of an SD card).
It will work and then show you a dialog box with OK.
6. Close the software and disconnect your SD card to insert it into the NetBook.
7. Press the reset button and turn on the netbook right after.
Or
7. Press the right-click and turn on the netbook.
It displays:
Found Upgrade Image!
Download Upgrade Image from SD...
Load Upgrade Image ......Start Check Flash...
Check Flash Ok
Upgrade Primary Image to Flash Ok.
Backup Image Ok
Checksum Ok
And normally your Windows CE is installed.
Here are the long-awaited files:
ftp://www.keysource.be/Netbook7-Qmedia-FR-NLWinCE5.zip
Here are some useful links:
https://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=rscservice&e=com
http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/cnmbook.htm
That's it for the information.
Personally, my problem is different because it gets stuck at "System Start-up, Please Wait .... "
But I've tried a lot of tricks and I've completely disassembled the device; there must be something wrong with mine. I will attempt a Linux installation, but well... That will be for another post.
Let me know how it goes.

Hello everyone, I had several issues with a Qmédia (late March), so I called France Loisirs to explain what was wrong, and guess what! They told me to return it before the end of April because there were many issues with this mini PC. They were sending them back to the supplier (in Belgium).
For those who, like me, managed to send it to them, it's resolved, but for those who didn't know, I don't know after this date.
I exchanged my referral gift without any problems.
And this morning I saw in their new catalog that they are making new ones (same operating system). I hope they won’t have as many issues with those.
It's still under warranty, but my advice is to return it if you can. Also, Windows C.E. 5.0 is not very well known. And the USB ports are version 1.1 and not 2.0 (my USB stick doesn’t fit).
Good luck to everyone.

Hello everyone, I have the same problem!
My little sister got a Q-Media 7 notebook 18628, I start it up, WinCE 5 launches and then nothing!
Instead of the desktop, there’s a white screen with the mouse pointer...
Great quality apparently! Even more frustrating, I’m on MAC OS X and I can’t find any software anywhere to prepare an SD card for booting to install Mandriva or another OS for the netbook.
This is really annoying!!!
I searched on Google, I followed your tutorials but since the programs are in .exe I tried on an old PC but to no avail...

Hello everyone
I have tried time and time again Onekid and it does this to me:
a dialog window opens after doing everything right and clicking on the SD card logo and it shows me:
WRITE SIGNAL SECTOR .... FAILED!
so back to square one....
Sniff

I already had that and I returned the computer and I saw that it said reset, I pressed it and it worked.
Hello,
I also did a sponsorship through France Loisirs and I received this gift
that doesn't work, but I'm not sure because it's been a year or even more since I got it.
What do you think I should do? I was considering either calling or returning it
and asking for another gift because I noticed that several people had issues..!!!
Thank you for your response, and if you have the return address, I'd appreciate it
Thanks a lot^

Thank you for your response, so it's indeed a memory issue but I managed to log into Windows Live but I can't connect.
The version of MSN on the PC is not interesting and outdated.
So there is no solution?
Thank you.

Otherwise, what everyone can do (well, those who know how to disassemble a Qmedia)
there are Qmedia motherboards here: https://www.micropuces.com/autre-carte-pour-qmedia-mini-notebook-p-2355.html
for €61 including shipping, I think I'll get one, plus the brand of the motherboard is Asus if you read it carefully, so it shouldn't pose too many software problems, I mean no more white screen :) all that's left is to do the update to Windows CE 6.00 and that's it :)
I might be mistaken about not seeing that little white screen bug anymore, but at worst, I'll just sell it, right? :)
Alright, see you!

I’m trying to fix my neighbor’s device; it also gets stuck on loading Windows CE, and I can’t find out how or what to do. No updates are making any difference.
Hello everyone, I just bought a Pioneerbird notebook equipped with Windows CE 5.0, but it is only compatible with the software already installed. So, I would like to switch to LINUX (Puppy, a small one of 105 MB or another). PS: there is no CD drive.
Thank you very much in advance.

You need to press the power button throughout the entire process and only release it when the desktop appears.
Otherwise, it gets stuck on please wait...

Hello,
For my daughter, I bought this little computer running Windows CE 6, but I can't install the 2009 version of MSN that my daughter uses.
I can't do anything, and can someone tell me how to deal with the antivirus? It doesn't want to download anything, but I understood that it doesn't need one.
If anyone has solutions.
THANK YOU

Good evening,
As far as I understand, you are all facing numerous problems with this mini netbook. I just saw that there was one for sale this week at Carrefour. This model is a Q. MEDIA 10''.
Personally, I wouldn't want to use it for browsing the internet but simply for word processing. Do you think I might encounter the same type of problems as all of you?! Is it possible to install a version of Windows other than CE?? Thank you in advance. Have a good evening.

This 703 notebook is a huge rip-off!!! If you have the misfortune to format!! The flash partition!! Nothing works anymore!!! And it is impossible to reinstall anything!!! Neither by USB key nor by SD!! Nor hard drive!!! The Windows CE program is in the factory flash memory!! I couldn’t do anything with it!!! I couldn’t add a program or format it!!! I unplugged the battery!! For several days!!! And when I reconnected it, I was able to format it!! To remove programs to free up space!! Now there's definitely space!! Since the formatting emptied everything!!! Only the Windows CE image remains on the screen!!!! In fact, this is 150 euros thrown in the trash!!!! There you go, the scam!!!

did you succeed
because when I tried to update it
I can no longer start it, it stays on check the image ... ok
and nothing happens after that
Honestly, great explanation, top result, we need more people like you on the web.
To those who, like me, have a pro with their Mini PC Q media Windows CE 5.0, follow ONEKID's advice closely
and your pro will be fixed in no time.
Thanks again ONEKID

I would like to know how to prepare the SD with the file I downloaded, but I can't get it to work. Thank you very much, see you soon

I had the same problem as you; my screen freezes on the Windows page saying system start-up please wait...
Did you finally manage to complete your installation?
Thank you.
