Good evening, like many enthusiasts I bought the game..
I installed it without a hitch, set my options but no problems there
But once the game is launched, it's a disaster, with all the graphics options maxed out, I find myself with square or poorly formed trees, with Sims where you can only see half of their hair, in short, graphic bugs that are quite annoying.
Here is my config to show that this is not a PC configuration problem.
3GB RAM DDR3
Maximus Extreme
Ati 4870X2
Quad Q9650
Anyway, I think I have what it takes to run the game at max without a hitch but I still have these bugs
Here are some screenshots:
My options:

A Sims:

I must admit that I tried lowering the graphics, I updated my graphic drivers and updated DirectX (DirectX 9c) with no success.
I don’t know what to do, maybe it’s a problem with my hardware? or I don't know, if you have any solutions to suggest I am all ears
Thank you.

Problem solved!! :D
So it's actually quite simple! In the Catalyst Control Center of the graphics card (download it if you don't have it), you need to disable the "adaptive anti-aliasing" option and apply the change!
After that, the game already looks more like something! Have fun playing, and to those who encounter this issue! :)

Thank you, I watched the video and I really appreciate it, it's explained so well =O!!! So, I set exactly the same options as you, all that's left is to restart the game.... The moment of truth!

Suspense (By the way, I've always racked my brain trying to put a roof on... but I didn't even realize it never rained ^^)
The bug is still there =(!!
So I'm sending an email to the address you gave me.
Thank you for your help!!

At least with these graphic settings in the game, like on the map itself, it's well set.
Yes, before I used to put large roofs on the house, which not only made it bulkier but also weighed down the graphics because a roof is a resource-demanding element (the roof isn't smooth and flat like a wall; it has a multitude of little tile details, so it needs graphical calculation). And it's not like in real life where it's nice, raining, snowing, hot, cold, with birds making a mess... no, here, in the game (this might actually be a downside since if it were to rain, it could water the garden, for example), it doesn't rain, it doesn't freeze, there are no birds or anything else making a mess, and there are no "natural disasters" either (that's also a shame, I think; it would spice up the game!) So, why add a roof that costs several thousand euros (especially when starting the game with limited money), while weighing down the graphics with something that ultimately serves no purpose because when you're in the house giving orders to the Sims to do something, you often remove the roof and often the walls too! So why have a roof when it serves no purpose? That's also why I avoid separated wall rooms; it's useless, it incurs costs for nothing, and the Sim doesn't live better (except for when they need to relieve themselves; if there’s more than one person, that's problematic). - Yeah, I’ve played the game quite a bit! I've restarted the game several times, so I've explored different jobs/careers and houses (a super massive house for a Sim or a small family is pointless; they don't live better in the game, and it weighs down the graphic rendering... there's no need for thousands of objects, the best objects replace the multitude (for example, in the game, Sims can live in the dark of night without complaining. The light exists only so that we can see. So one ceiling light at maximum power, preferably white, is enough, and the bill will be less heavy... there are lots of little tricks like that.
The same goes for solar panels and wind turbines; if we set the maximum number of products for the maximum amount of discount, we significantly reduce the bill. We then improve the products, and there you go, we double the gain. The bill has decreased by 30%. The same goes for the eco-friendly car; it greatly reduced my bills (because taxis are expensive)...
Anyway, I'm sorry that it hasn't been resolved, but at least you have the right settings now. Keep these settings for the future. But given your bug, it was not just a matter of graphic settings; it's a major bug, either from the game itself or from some software you have.
Keep me updated on the solution provided by the Sims 3 site, please; I'm really interested.
Good luck!

Super, thank you, it's working for me too :) I'm marking the post as resolved, and if anyone else has an issue, well, there you go, it's sorted :)
Yes, it's not enough to have a product of any kind (whether it's in computing, cars, TVs, or anything else); you need to configure it! I'm a bit late to the conversation, but often if there's no display or a bad display, it's 90% due to the wrong settings on the graphics card (the remaining 10% is for compatibility issues!). Also, during installation, always choose the custom option; you never know what the programs might contain.
Even though the "default settings" mode is supposed to be suitable for everything, you must always adjust it properly. When I got my HD3650, I spent a good hour configuring it by testing my architecture software and games. Now it's perfect! Resolution at maximum, details at maximum, and here's an example I took with my camera https://www.casimages.com/i/090605023948122643.jpg.html and if I zoom in to the maximum, you can see ants, for instance, if you have any on an apple tree!

To answer your question, my friend came in September and installed my game. Afterward, she installed Daemon Tools (sorry for the spelling!!) But it is disabled since I insert the CD and it launches. When my friend installed the game, I played for a maximum of 1 month, then I uninstalled it.
Thank you for your quick response, which to me is very comprehensive!!!

I might be a bit of a pain, but could you take some screenshots in game mode, this time during the day instead of at night, please? I'm having a bit of trouble seeing everything there.
One question too: you installed the game, right? Have you updated it since? Did you try completely uninstalling it (with or without saving your game progress) and then reinstalling the game to see if that helped after the update? Because it's worth noting that the very first version had some bugs, including issues with updates being impossible, crashes, or some display bugs here and there. So that might be it. To update the game, it happens in the game's startup module; at the bottom you see "update," click it and update if it prompts you, otherwise click on verify to be sure.
In the meantime, I'll check the rest and try to give you a recap of things to do!

no, it doesn't cause me glitches, it just gives me pretty poor image quality, you can see some pixels!
I probably need to change my screen size, anyway, but otherwise the game works great, no glitches or anything!!! it doesn't crash and I'm playing with full sims ^^ lol!! so good luck to you!!!

I see that I am not the only one in the same predicament...
Either Ati is freaking out about it or it's just bad luck, who knows
In the meantime, I still want to bump the topic for possible solutions? :)
Thanks.

NVIDIA enthusiasts will tell you no, but ATI enthusiasts will tell you yes. Now, you've given the brand but not the model, so it may very well be good in itself, but very or even too weak, if not completely unsuitable for gaming (in general) and/or sims.
To find out your graphics card model, right-click on the computer icon (or My Computer if on XP) > properties (for Vista, click on device manager on the left) > device manager. There, locate the line. You will have a [+]Graphics cards. Expand it, and then you will have a sub-line with the model of the graphics card.
Alternatively, you can download the Sandra software (for example here https://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Utilitaire/optimiseurs_et_tests/fiches/308.html), install it normally, and then when started (after the did you know and other tips if activated), you can either click on overview of the computer (wait and then scroll down to see the graphics card), or on display and graphics cards, and you will have the exact name of the graphics card series.
Once we have the model or, failing that, the series of the graphics card, we can make better statements. Now, the graphics card goes with the computer; if you have an awesome GPU but the computer can't keep up or vice versa, it won't work. A computer must be "balanced"... like meals!

Hello,
I don't know if anyone will respond since it's been a year, but I just bought The Sims 3 (second-hand) and when I play, the characters, the city, the furniture, etc. are blurry; they are not sharp, and it's very unpleasant... I tried what Almaeda suggested, but it didn't work. I downloaded Catalyst Control Center, but "Adaptive Anti-Aliasing" was already unchecked and I can't check it anyway >_< If someone could help me, that would be nice :\
I can send pictures of my screen if you want to see what's going on.
Thank you.

You should provide the brand and model of your graphics card to help you better. Then you can:
- look to update your graphics card drivers (it never hurts!)
- otherwise, check in your game, in the options, graphics section, if you have the "edge smoothing" option enabled. If so, disable it. (I’m wondering what this option is for that makes the graphics ugly when enabled even at minimum!) I think that might be the issue, but you may have another setting in your display options that isn’t configured properly.
You will take a screenshot and upload it to a site that will accept your image, and then you will provide the link. To do this:
- start The Sims, go to options, especially the graphics section, and press the Print Screen key, the key just above the Insert key. When you press that key, switch windows (Alt+Tab) to display the desktop. Open, for example, Paint, and press Ctrl+V to paste the screenshot into it. When done, save it as a JPEG, for example on the desktop. If you can also take a screenshot in game mode to see exactly what it looks like, that would also help.
- once you have your images, open a web page and go here http://www.noelshack.com/ and upload your images. When they are uploaded, provide the link to access them.

Thank you for replying ^^
I already have the images, I'm going to put them on the site & I'll send you the links. One thing is for sure, it's not the game settings (the only thing I'm not sure about is the screen size, so I left it as it was, but I don't think it changes the quality of the graphics). I tried to update the drivers for my graphics card but the site is in English & I don't know much about computers so I preferred not to venture :\
My graphics card is an ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series (let me know if that's not what you were asking me ^^').

This helps me partially. Indeed, I mainly wanted your settings window in the game's graphics options, to see if you have a bad setting or at least a setting that is not well adjusted for your graphics card and/or screen.
But, several things:
- At what resolution are you playing? (by default, the game does not use the display you may have in desktop mode. It is always the minimum resolution. Right now, it seems to be 800x600
- Go to the game's options in the graphics section.
Look for me (the display is a bit low because I use 2 screens in clone mode, one of which is a giant living room screen, and unless I overclock the graphics card that I have, an hd3650, I can't go higher than this resolution, identical on 2 screens, one of which is giant) http://www.noelshack.com/ and http://www.noelshack.com/
After that, set like this on my end, the image is perfect.
For your screen issues, when you create a sim, the part that you are not currently working on is a bit less sharp and highlighted. For example, if you're focusing on the hair, the t-shirt will be a bit less sharp to clearly show that you're taking care of the hair.
The city mode is always a bit less pretty when you are in sim mode because in city mode, you only need it to get from where you are to a place you want to go. No need for the landscape to be perfect.
I also made you 2 mini mini videos of the display in game mode that you can see here http://picasaweb.google.com/DepannageInformatique76/Sims?authkey=Gv1sRgCNnxwofA9KL9IQ however, since I hosted it on a site and if I remember correctly it is in flash, I’m not sure the quality is great for you.
For your graphics card, it’s an integrated graphics card on the motherboard so it will be much less powerful than a dedicated graphics card, like mine. I would have liked to give you a link to download the drivers for your graphics card but I’m missing some info.
However, the ATI site ( http://www.amd.com/fr/Pages/AMDHomePage.aspx ) is in French if you choose it in French. On the right, there is a panel to go download the display drivers. For you, it will be in:
motherboard/chipset
radeon xpress series
radeon xpress
And then choose your operating system, making sure to pay attention to the versions like 32 and 64 bits because one is not compatible with the other.
There you go, I hope I helped you, good luck.

Wow! I am very grateful to you for going to so much trouble to solve my problem :)
I will review everything you told me & sent me & try to resolve my issue. If I really can't manage, I will let you know, but I do not expect anything more from you, don't spend all your time on my case ^^' I think that if after all this it still doesn't work, it means my PC or my graphics card are too old.
In any case, thank you very much & I will let you know tomorrow or the day after what the outcome is.
Best regards

We're here for that.
Don't worry about it.
I don't know your computer and I'm not personally familiar with ATI X graphics cards, and generally, I know very little about integrated graphics cards because I never personally use them on any of my computers. On the other hand, for all my friends I can help or clients for whom I can assemble computers, even if they hardly have any gaming usage, I always recommend a dedicated graphics card for better graphics performance and not to lose too much RAM for the computer. Indeed, if we have 3GB of RAM on a computer and an integrated GPU, the RAM size available for the GPU will reduce the RAM available for the computer, because integrated GPUs do not have their own RAM, so they borrow from elsewhere. And it drops quickly if the integrated GPU is "powerful" (if we can call it that for an integrated one!).
However, by "investing" even in the +/- cheapest graphics cards to put in your computer, you would see a huge difference whether in computer mode (thus outside of gaming/videos) or in gaming or video mode. https://www.materiel.net/ it will already be much better than mine, and yet, I love my 3650!! Fully capable in almost every game and other applications and in clone mode, so if you only have one screen, hello quality. And if you don't play network games or some ultra-demanding games, it will certainly be at max quality for others, and for the most demanding ones, if you’re not at full capacity, you won’t be far off because even with mine I'm at full capacity almost everywhere, so you… and you see, the HD4350 costs almost nothing, and believe me, you will see the difference!
If you want to treat yourself and take, for example, this one, to install it, nothing could be simpler:
- disconnect your computer from the power, press the power button to completely discharge the computer, wait 2-3 minutes to be sure.
- open one side of the tower, position your new card at the bottom of the motherboard in an available PCI Express slot (if possible the one at the very top), without forcing it, it should fit almost by itself, you will just have a little click at the end.
- change the cable (remove it from the other graphics card to put it on the new card)
- reconnect the power to the computer (don't close the tower just yet)
- check if, without being turned on but with power, there are no strange noises or odd things or smells (this is ultra-rare but it all depends on dust or improper placement); if there's a problem, cut the power immediately. If everything is okay, turn on the computer (keeping the side open to watch at the same time if everything is still okay) and see if it turns on as it should and if you have an image. You should normally have one. If everything is okay, you can close the tower and then normally turn on the computer. If there's no image, check to change the cable or reset the computer (turn it off and then turn it on again)
- when the operating system is perfectly launched, insert your driver CD for the card and install the drivers and the control panel (for ATI it's Catalyst). You will probably be prompted to restart the computer at the end, then you just need to adjust the card to your liking and voilà, new performance for the computer.
After that, if the computer crashes during gameplay or you have no display at all, this may be due, apart from improper placement, to a power supply that is too weak. Thus, it can crash if the GPU does not have enough power. In this case, you should consider getting a more powerful power supply. If you have a 480W, get at least a 580W or 600W minimum and then change the PSU.
It may seem complicated like this when you don't know, but it's super simple. And if you're not comfortable, ask someone who knows a bit to help you.
There you go.

Hello,
I bought the game The Sims 3. Since then, I've been experiencing really annoying graphic bugs (for example, my stairs are stretched, with large black lines. The same goes for visiting other houses...)
I talked about it on a forum and followed the instructions (updated graphics card + DirectX.
My graphics card IS COMPATIBLE (at least I'm pretty sure ^^) because at the beginning of September, a friend lent me the game to test it. I didn't have any issues.
Here are the specs for my card:
Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Series
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x9553)
DAC type: Internal DAC (400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9553&SUBSYS_02611025&REV_00
Display Memory: 1783 MB
Dedicated Memory: 505 MB
Shared Memory: 1277 MB
Current Mode: 1600 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic Plug and Play Monitor
Driver Name: aticfx32.dll,aticfx32.dll,atiumdag.dll,atidxx32.dll,atiumdva.cap
Driver Version: 8.17.0010.0029 (English)
DDI Version: 10.1
BGRA Supported: Yes
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 5/27/2010 19:02:46, 511488 bytes
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
(I don't know if you want the entire report, so ^^)
Other than that, what can I say...
Playing like this is really frustrating for me. In my ATI card, in the 3D options, you can find a picture on the forum showing what's enabled or not.

Honestly, I hope someone can help me because spending 60 euros on a really bad game (considering the bugs I have... =( )
Thank you very much for your help.

shrimp:
Without being annoying, first of all, when you buy/legally obtain a product, whatever it is, if you have an issue with it, the first thing to do is to contact the support/service of the brand or a competent person from the support/vendor. Only after that, if there's no satisfactory response (like no solution to a problem, for example), should you try to reach an agreement for a refund or exchange. And if that's not possible, don't hesitate to let them know that there will be negative publicity, that you will alert the relevant authorities... because you shouldn't leave things as they are, because let's be honest, €60 is €60 and it's also a matter of principle! The support for The Sims 3 is incredibly efficient and competent. I encountered several issues early on and even later, I even had a problem with losing the booklet containing the code and so I was stuck reinstalling the game, and although it took some time (because they had technical issues where they couldn't handle the hotline via email at the same time!), they even provided me with the license code again after my previous online registration. So, to say that they are competent and that you shouldn't hesitate to contact them.
That was one thing, now your question is quite developed, however, the link can only be accessed if you are registered. Well, that's okay.
On the other hand, in your explanation, you mention "my stairs are stretched, big black lines. Same for visiting other houses..." okay but in an image. Because here, the problem could be really multiple; it might simply be due to a game resolution that is too low (800x600 whereas you are used to a high resolution which makes it seem ugly or not adapted to your screen), or conversely too high (and your screen can't display the image properly), or it could be related to settings in the game like graphics card settings itself or a conflict between the game and/or the display and/or the rest of the computer. And for this, I'm going to ask you for a few small things:
- Go into game mode and take several screenshots (press the Print Screen key just above the Insert key. Then press Alt+Tab to go back to the desktop view, open Paint, press Ctrl+V to paste the captured image, save the image for example on the desktop, go back into the game and take more screenshots at different moments where the display looks really bad...
- When you are in game mode (saved game loaded), go to options and take screenshots of all the tabs present.
- In desktop mode (so you're not in the game itself, it can remain open or not, that's not important), check the display properties of the graphics card (right click on the empty space on the desktop > you should see an ATI button, otherwise Properties > last tab on the right to check the screen resolution, click on advanced and you should have the ATI tab proposed. Click on the button of that tab. In the empty space, right-click > Screen resolution if you're on Windows 7. And then, if your drivers are up to date, you have a button in the top left with an arrow and a name like welcome, information center or some other name. Click on the arrow to display the graphics menu. There you will see a lot of buttons below (that's where we adjust the graphical side of the game) corresponding to tabs. Then take screenshots of each to see everything.
- When you have taken all the screenshots from the beginning (so from game mode, from the options menu in the game, and finally from the graphics card settings), upload the photos you took and saved for example on the desktop, here http://www.noelshack.com/ once uploaded, send me the different links of the images so I can better understand your issue and try to help you afterwards.
Then, another small thing:
- What is your computer? Laptop? Desktop? What is it composed of hardware-wise?
- You indicated that you had already played the game, but what was it? How? Was it really The Sims 3 and was it on this computer? Did you set it up yourself or did someone else configure it for you?
- What operating system do you have? Is it Windows? Linux? Mac? And what version of the system do you have?
There you go, good luck. We'll see afterwards when you've already done that.
For my part, I primarily play this game on a computer that has an HD3650. I don't personally know your card, but between yours and mine, there's almost no difference and mine is a bit less powerful. So if the game is perfect, it should also be for you and the display quality should be a bit better for you than for me since the card you have should be a bit more powerful.

Good evening!!
After updating my graphics card and DirectX, I reinstalled the game entirely (there were no previous saves left). When I look at the game launch for The Sims, it says my version is up to date.
Here are the photos you requested =)!! I would add that from a top view, I don't have this graphic bug (After 4-5 clicks - when you see your sims in mini, the bug no longer appears.)

Ok, now I can see much better... in broad daylight!
I've never seen this problem before. I'm afraid I won't be able to completely solve the issue for you and that you'll need to contact EA Games support, where I'll provide the link below if necessary.
However, in the meantime, I've made a video of all the various settings, which I'm uploading here for you. Once you've seen it and made the adjustments, let me know so I can delete the video from the site (limited space!).
At the end of the video, I showed some stuttering in the game, but upon reviewing the video, it seems like the stuttering is not due to the actual display I have, but simply because the video is not perfect (to save on file size). However, you can still see the quality present in the video.
To watch the video, by default, it will be in 320p. The image will be bad. Click on it and select 720p HD for a nice clear image.
There you go, I hope I was able to help a bit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKYsD7S-0BM (at the time I finished the email, the video wasn't completely re-encoded for the site, so you might have to wait a few minutes before being able to view the 720p HD display where you'll have a nice clear image)
If that still doesn't resolve the bug, which could either be a conflict with a component/software on your computer, or you might need to move more slowly for the image to refresh!!! lol
So if that doesn't resolve it, go here http://www.ea.com/fr/page/support-technique (you'll need to log in with your online account credentials, and preferably choose the online contact form (if you're not in a hurry, usually a response takes between 48 hours to 1 week) or contact them by phone (if you're in a rush, but they won't be able to see the actual display like that). So I would recommend contacting them via the form, describing everything clearly, including the recommended dxdiag (easy to do), and also attaching all the screenshots (especially from the day but also at night) for the graphical bugs and game settings that have been properly adjusted afterwards. This will help them try to understand.
Finally, if my solution doesn't resolve the issue and you contact them, I would appreciate it if you could keep me updated in case I encounter this issue one day, so I know where it comes from...

No worries, as soon as I know something, I'll copy and paste the solution for you!!
When I can finally play it, I'll definitely take your little tips into account, because I have to admit that putting the lamps in place was really getting on my nerves!!

Yeah, me too. A simple ceiling lamp in the middle, max power in white is enough for a big room. Since they like fireplaces, put one in, it’ll also give you a corner of light. And likewise, you can put candles near a computer or whatever, fire = mood on top, light... all happiness without paying higher bills.
Hi everyone, I have a solution that might solve your problem.
I noticed that the more I played, the more the graphical bugs intensified (some sort of patches and 3D lines covering my entire field of vision). So I opened my laptop, cleaned it with a cotton swab, blew compressed air into the heatsink filter, and vacuumed everything. The result: my processor heats up a lot less (I gained 10 °C).
I went further into the concept of processor cooling and I play with my laptop circuits exposed to the air (at your own risk). Indeed, I don't put the lid back on my laptop and I make sure to place it flat on a clean surface, in my case on glass, away from moisture... etc. and I gain another 10 °C.
And I close my laptop after each game.
The Sims 3 bugs are ancient history for me.
For computers with mileage (3 years and older), you may need to change the thermal paste (novices abstain).
Warning!!! Opening your laptop may void the warranty; if you’ve never done it before, inform yourself beforehand on how to proceed or leave the task to someone more experienced.

Whether you have the program (the game) on DVD-ROM or downloaded, it’s the same program (unless I’m mistaken), so if the program is identical, the quality is identical.
It’s up to you then, in terms of graphics and everything else, to properly configure the game in the game options and perhaps also (if not already set) the graphics card itself.
Personally, I only know The Sims 2 by name and a bit visually. But between the first and the third, it’s like night and day.
Honestly, even though I expected other things, and better things for certain functions/options, the game is gorgeous in terms of graphics.
Now yes, at the very first start, I was startled because the first two jingles + the opening video are really ugly, but after adjusting the game followed by a restart, the image is stunning, even though I couldn’t set the game resolution as I usually do because the game doesn’t seem to recognize anything above 1920x1080.
So make sure to properly configure the game and your graphics card.
But now, you bought the complete DVD-ROM (at least I assume so!), and it doesn’t seem to work, so if I were you, I would go exchange it, even if you’ve downloaded it in the meantime.
