Freebox phone issue Closed

Question

Hey there!!!

I have a problem that I really don't understand. I've had my Freebox for months, and everything was working great (Internet + phone). However, this morning, while I was on the phone, my conversation was abruptly cut off, as if there was no dial tone. So, I tried to call back, but I only hear a long dial tone and nothing else. I unplugged my phone, restarted my Freebox, but the phone still isn't working :-(

What can I do? Is it possible for the phone network to be down and that I just have to wait? I should mention that when I dial my contact's number twice in a row, it works again, go figure!!!

when someone calls my FREE line, the caller goes directly to my voicemail without my phone ringing!!!
what should I do to change this and set up my voicemail for redirects because when I dial the codes *75*5 the tone is busy???

I notice this morning that it is impossible to reach my contact by the Freebox phone... I restarted the modem but without success!!

Good evening everyone,  I would almost be happy to see that I'm not the only one suffering the collateral damage of FREEBOX I waited until this magnificent arrival of 10 MB high-speed internet in non-unbundled mode from Free + free telephony + TV When my freebox arrived, I was sparkling like a child with a new toy, and then... First disappointment: - No TV in non-unbundled mode, read the fine print, the speed doesn’t count for TV, you MUST be unbundled, well okay, I got caught, like a good loser I accept and we'll see Second disappointment: - The sound in telephony is CRAP, I have the vowel plan, you can't understand anything, it cuts off all the time, (filter changed, tests done with a filter on the socket upstream of the freebox, and even with a filter between the freebox and my phone, phone changed three times) Moreover, when I call my number, THE CHOICE, in parentheses among a dozen numbers, I love this type of choice.........well, calling my number once every two times, I get: This number is not accessible, unassigned.....damn I'm going to ask to be refunded 50% of the free subscription then, anyway. Third disappointment: - I have 2 stations, a switch, great I set up the router, it works after restarting the freebox, and then well every day, I have to restart my freebox because otherwise I have no internet (DHCP server crashed or faulty router)  So, I'm going to go around these disappointments, and I think that freebox is going to receive soon a registered letter copy: ART (Telecom Regulatory Authority) UFC (French Consumer Union) 60 million consumers  I invite all of you to do the same to make things move because this is no longer a minor technical problem, it is a deception on the goods and a lack of information for consumers. Hi, I don't understand that kind of attitude either. Free is one of the few providers that offers so many options without extra charges. I have a Freebox at home and a Livebox at the store, and let me tell you, the Livebox is not better. (the sound quality is very poor) and it's much more expensive. I have no issues with my Freebox, and I don't have TV either, but you should discuss that with France Télécom to get them to unbundle you faster, not with Free. Yes, Free is unbundling, but in the letter you receive, Free explains that this will be done as soon as possible if the historical operator (I like how they don't mention FT) also shows some good will.  For example, I am in the process of unbundling and I’m still waiting for FT to confirm the connection of my line.  It doesn't stop me from surfing, but something must have happened because I haven't had a phone since last night.  I called FT, and they are going to... take a look. Hello,  I use several phones on the same number. The one connected to the Freebox cannot make or receive calls. On the other hand, my phones directly connected to the sockets with a filter work perfectly. Having chosen Free for their free phone offer, I find myself in a rather troublesome situation (especially at the end of the month...)  Thank you in advance.

Do all phones work with the Telephony offer?  All phones sold in the French market for over a decade normally work on Freeboxes, meaning phones with tone dialing (musical keypad phones).  Phones that dial by pulse (meaning they make a small 'click' sound between each digit of the number) do not work. Foreign phones do not work.  See here: http://faq.free.fr/?q=1041

Good evening everyone,  I've had the Freebox for several months now and everything was working fine until a few days ago (Phone, internet, and TV). For the past few days, the internet is working well, the TV too, but I no longer have any dial tone on my phone line and I can't receive my emails (except on webmail). chenue July 27, 2007  Phone troubles with FREE: it started with crackling noises when picking up the line, dial tone but no ringing or incoming calls; therefore, unable to communicate. The next day, no more dial tone. Disconnected and reconnected multiple times without success. The FT line is functioning normally. Reported to FREE for 4 days in vain. Suspecting an automatic task of ACTIVE elements from FREE that would start at night, I contacted them to report the issue. Hello, I'm not using my Freebox for phone calls, I'm still going through FT. Since June, it has been impossible to reach me by phone; after the first ring, the line disappears. You have to call me back and I need to pick up on the first ring for the call to go through. There are no issues with outgoing calls. Free initially told us it was an FT problem; the FT technician has come twice to conclude that it’s the Freebox that's the issue. The Free helpdesk (very bright) had us change the filters, plug and unplug the box, all of this of course with no success. And now they're telling us to borrow a Freebox to do some tests!!! Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I think that if there is a problem with Free, you need to follow through with the process. The visit and repair are free if the issue originates from them. However, if the problem comes from your side, you will have to pay for the visit.

In fact, I think that Free totally disregards its customers. The best way to combat this "behavior" is to resolve the current issue and especially to cancel the contract afterwards. Let's stop letting ourselves be treated like consumers who can't react to negligence problems. I understand that technically everything doesn't work as it should, but a service provider must take all necessary measures to satisfy its customers, rather than spending a budget on advertising (who is "crétin.fr" in my story???), why not hire employees to solve technical issues and/or send a package? ... I know the answer, because it wouldn't bring as much money to Mr. "Free" and his shareholders, but this clearly shows that the goal of these companies is to enrich themselves at any cost. I haven't had a phone since August 15, the problem was detected by Free (the Freebox is down according to their terms), and I have been waiting for the delivery of another Freebox since August 17 (first, and not the last!, call to the hotline). To resolve this matter, it will be in the Lyon small claims court... I think there are also issues with other operators, but that is not a reason to settle for being just a paying machine! (Free doesn't hesitate to withdraw the 30 euros subscription every month). In short, my case is not isolated, but do not let yourselves be treated like this!  T.

In my opinion, there are 2 solutions: - bad filter (to test, disconnect the FT line socket + filter and try with the Free line to FT (swap filter) - a reversal in the telephone wires or a connection to an external bell

To identify the connection wires:  - with a controller, check with direct current that the + is on 1 on all telephone sockets or on 3 - by the color of the wires on the socket (be sure that the connection has been made correctly)  If the internet is working fine and there is another socket, you need to swap the wires between 1 and 3 and check if the operation has changed or is still the same.  For the outdoor bell, there is a capacitor that interferes with the operation.

You need to do a HARD REBOOT of the Freebox hoping that it will fix the problem. Instructions: unplug the power supply of the box and plug it back in, wait for the 88.88 blinking and then unplug it. Do this 5 times in a row, then reconnect the power supply and the initialization should proceed normally. Hoping my explanations are clear, good luck.

If you dial 0, you get 10 pulses in the receiver in DC (2 seconds), while in FV (normality today) you hear a brief single tone (not even a second for both 0 and 1). If you receive calls and cannot make calls, it's due to your phone. Check that your phone is compatible. See you!

I've had the Freebox for two and a half years, and my phone service was working perfectly until a week ago when I could no longer make calls because there's a loud crackling noise and I can't hear anything. Hello,  The Freebox works well.  The problem is the transformer. 12V and 1.2A!!! for something so light made in China.  You can order another one in your Free customer space under the accessories section for about €10, shipping included.  When the transformer starts to fail, we often lose the phone first, then the internet.  To troubleshoot, many external hard drives often have a 12V transformer and several amps.  Best regards   PS: I even recommend that those who have a Freebox order a transformer in advance. For €10, they can avoid a nervous breakdown with Free customer service :)

Hello I'm sorry to intrude on your discussion To minimize problems as much as possible, I've connected the FREEBOX directly to the so-called PTT socket at the arrival and behind the FREEBOX, I've connected the TV, the PC, and the phones, so no more filters, thus a better bandwidth in my opinion There are no more filters, and since every additional cut weakens the signal by 8 to 10dB, it should work better To be honest, I've already had phone cuts. There's a stop-and-go on the FREEBOX and it's OK except for New Year's Day when the network must have been saturated. I've heard of problems with other operators (especially with the LIVE BOX) And besides, I call for free, I have X additional TV channels, and high-speed internet, so free phone via the internet, so!!!!!! PS I have a friend who has a FT line: Line cut for 2 months!!! The PTT is no longer what it used to be (well yes, they need to make money and outsource maintenance (to plumbers?)) There's one last solution, it's the carrier pigeon because then the pigeon won't be you.

Just to confirm following the previous posts the issues related to the power supply of the Freebox and in my specific case with the power cord. I have a Freebox v4 and I am in partial unbundling (but I think this last point doesn't matter)

Symptom: everything was working fine for several months with my Freebox when my telephony started to go haywire, background noise. Then 3 days later no phone, no dial tone and when someone calls me they reach the voicemail. However, the Freebox synchronizes without issues and the internet is still working very well. Checked the filters on the phone sockets, hard reboot of the Freebox, tried other phone sockets and still no phone. Free support leaves me without an answer.
Second round of testing at a colleague's place who has the same equipment. There I test each component one by one: my filters, my cables, the connectors, my Freebox... In the end, we identify a problem with the power cord! My Freebox itself is functional! Ordered a cord, received it the following week and voilà everything works again!

When I send an email to Free at the concerned department, they treat me like an IDIOT by responding that your technical sheet informs us that you are not connected, please dial "75" code #. Your phone must be connected to the back of the Freebox in the designated spot and not to the main socket; it's even strange that you can make calls from the main socket.  Have a nice day.

Hello everyone,  the Freebox already has some bugs from time to time... if it's a small bug you just need to unplug it and wait, if it doesn't work you either have to change the filter or the power supply unit at the back connected to the phone (a kind of big black plug) you need to change it roughly every 2 years, for that you just need to order it on free.fr it's not very expensive and it works perfectly again!! You have internet and the phone line is busy: it’s a component of the Freebox that has burned out. You need to have your Freebox changed. Just say that it’s not working anymore, don’t mention that there was a storm otherwise you will have to pay for it!
