How Snapchat works

Hello,

I would need the opinion of someone who truly understands how Snapchat works, because my situation is quite particular and I’d like to understand technically what is happening.

After a breakup, my ex-blocked me on Snapchat. However, we still share an old Snapchat group with other people, and it’s through that group that I observe several things I don’t understand.

When I look at their presence in the group, their account still appears and I have the “+ Add” button next to their profile.

I’ve already tried tapping “+ Add.” Snapchat then returns an error message like “Whoops, this user…” and the addition doesn’t go through.

If, instead of tapping “+ Add,” I tap directly on their Bitmoji to try to access their profile, I get another error like “Whoops, we’re sorry…”. So I can’t access their profile normally.

Yet, a few days after the block, our old private chat became visible again in Snapchat.

The old nickname we had for our conversation is still shown, but I can’t modify its nickname. I also can’t change the photo/background we had set for our conversation.

However, I can open the chat normally. The text field for sending a message is still present and I also have access to the button to take or send a photo.

Snapchat even showed me in this conversation the expiration indication of our old Snapstreak.

I can also scroll back to some of our old saved messages. Part of the history is still accessible, even though I can’t find all the old messages as before.

And now there’s an additional, even stranger element: when they post a Snapchat story, I can see and watch their story by going through the group we share.

All of this happens from my own Snapchat account and my own phone.

So currently, I have this situation:

– their account is still visible in our common group with “+ Add”;
– if I tap “+ Add,” Snapchat gives me an error;
– if I tap directly on their Bitmoji, Snapchat also gives me a “Whoops” and I can’t open their profile normally;
– our old private conversation is yet again accessible;
– the old nickname and the old wallpaper of the conversation are still visible, but I can’t modify them;
– the field to write a message and the photo button are still active;
– I can view part of our old saved messages;
– and most notably, I can currently watch their stories on Snapchat when I go through our common group.

My first question is: is all of this actually compatible with the fact that this person has me completely blocked on Snapchat?

Can a blocked person still view the stories of someone who blocked them when they are still members of the same group?

Or could this situation rather correspond to someone who blocked me and then unblocked me without re-adding me as a friend, with certain functionalities remaining restricted?

Could a bug, Snapchat cache, or the special behavior of groups explain simultaneously the visible story, accessible old chat, and the errors when I try to access the profile or add them?

And one last question about messages: since Snapchat still lets me access the chat field and the button to send a photo, if I actually sent a message or a Snap, could the other person receive and see it despite this situation?

Or could the interface of our old conversation simply remain active on my side while the message would never actually reach their account?

I want to note that I don’t want to send anything on purpose just to test. I’m simply trying to understand technically what status between our two accounts could explain all these contradictory behaviors.
