Update Garmin nuvi GPS for free

It's paid everywhere!! Speed cameras and others!! Just so you know.

Update your Garmin GPS - FOR FREE -

(Tested on Garmin nuvi 200)



Version 1 (Easy)

Go to the website: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/

Once on the site, select “Generic Routable”

Then predefined country: >>europe>>France

A link appears under "Request your map or download it directly:"

Download the file osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip

Unzip the file onto an SD card and insert the SD card into the GPS.

You're ready!!



Version 2 (more difficult)

Go to the website: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/

Once on the site, select “Generic Routable”

Under "Perhaps you'd like to add some additional tiles?", check the box "Enable manual tile selection:"

On the map below, select the geographical area you want for your GPS.

Be careful not to select more than 1 GB of map at a time.

Then under "Request your map or download it directly:", enter an email. Validate and go to your inbox.

Repeat these last two steps several times until you have selected all the map tiles you need. You may have overlapping areas. However, do not exceed 4 GB of mapping (SD card limitation afterward)

While waiting to receive the download links, we will download the software: Gmaptool, http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/gmaptool. This software will allow us to compile the maps.

Download the files osm_generic_tiles.zip and unzip the files into a directory. Agree to overwrite the files from the previously unzipped osm_generic_tiles.zip in the same directory. Check that all the files in the directory weigh less than 4 GB.

In Gmaptool, select all the files in the directory (file tab), then in the join tab, specify the address of the file obtained by placing it on the GPS's SD card in z:/garmin/gmapsupp.img. Name the map something like "my awesome map".

Click on join all and wait.

You will retrieve a gmapsupp.img file on your SD card. This file is your mapping.

You may encounter size issues with the SD card, as it will be formatted to FAT32. FAT32 only accepts files smaller than 4 GB. Therefore, you are limited to 4 GB of map data. Time for all the manipulations is approximately 3 hours.

Just by going through this channel, I have a 2GB micro SD but I can't seem to find the update, let alone how to do it.

I went through the Garmin website because it was mentioned when I turned on my GPS, and in the end, it told me that there is no update for my GPS. Knowing that I provided my model number, I ended up downloading a Garmin program only to face the same issue again!!

If you could help me, please, I would be thrilled!!

What is this program?

I have a "Garmin" program that seems to start up every time I turn on my computer, but nothing happens!

It refuses the update because I believe my GPS is too old!! A new map is offered to me if I pay, but it's too expensive considering my situation!!
