I mostly agree with Priss, except for the chorus. Because she says "you" throughout all those verses and in the chorus, she says "he." For me, there would be two boys: one who still loves her and with whom she is in a relationship, and this best friend whom she is falling more and more in love with. And the mistake would be to get together, and the lives they set aside would be their respective couple lives. That's my point of view on the song :)
