with my setup you will have Dolby 5.1 or DTS only with the HD channels of the TV, with DVDs played on the home cinema
you will surely have Dolby Pro Logic II with the PS3 and the Cube (which is good too) and if your TV is designed to pass through Dolby 5.1 you will get it on the home but not sure

if you want Dolby 5.1 or DTS for the PS3, you need to use the optical output of the PS3 (configure the audio output of the PS3) and connect it to the home (but then no Dolby sound for the TV anymore)

if you don't have an audio output on the TV, you might have one on the TNT decoder = connect this audio output (if it exists) to an input on the home theater (either RCA or component)

otherwise, use a jack-jack or jack-RCA cable between the headphone jack and the home theater.

what you need before buying is to know which devices will be connected to it and to understand the connections of each device

does the TV have a digital audio output (optical out or coaxial)
do I need the DVD player? knowing that the PS3 plays DVDs and Blu-rays


Personally, I am in favor of a real home theater receiver with various inputs (2 optical, 1 coaxial, RCA, or even an HDMI)
For me, a home theater mainly deals with sound and has a radio tuner but no DVD player
After that, it’s a matter of price

Do you have an RCA input on the home theater?

so you connect the headphone jack of your TV (which is an audio output) to the red and white input of the home theater using a jack-RCA cable, and to listen to the TV sound, you set the home theater to the corresponding RCA input
this way you will have dolby pro logic

your input sound is analog, so don't expect 5.1 quality, but Dolby Pro Logic is an "emulator" that provides good effects: basically, you will have stereo on the front and rear speakers, and the subwoofer will work (I even know of films where the effects are better in Pro Logic than in DTS!)

It's not going to be great with this home theater that doesn't have a digital audio input!

The simplest solution (hoping the TV has an audio RCA output (red and white jacks)) is to connect this output (out) to the unique RCA input of the home theater

Then connect the PS3 via HDMI as you did (and configure the sound in the PS3 settings menu, but it should already be set)

To listen to the sound from the PS3 and the TV on the home theater, just select TV audio: however, it won't be Dolby 5.1 but Dolby Pro Logic (which is mainly detrimental for Blu-ray playback)

If the TV doesn't have an RCA output, connect the headphone jack of the TV to the line-in jack of the home theater


The best option would be to exchange this model and buy another one with an optical input.

it would allow to capture the DTS or Dolby sound from the PS3 and therefore from Blu-rays

the HDMI if you want but it's not essential

just a headphone output: it connects to the amplifier with a jack cable on one end - red and white RCA on the other end

a Jack or RCA input: there are adapter cables

for the sound that will come out of the TV, it will be transformed into Dolby Pro Logic by the home theater system.
