Black Screen: Cannot Display This Video Mode

Question

Hello;

I wanted to change the screen resolution settings on my PC (right-click on the desktop > properties > appearance), I clicked OK, then bam, a black screen with "Cannot Display This Video Mode" in the center of the screen. Well, I thought it was nothing, so I restarted my PC but that black screen with "Cannot Display This Video Mode" persists!!

What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
start in safe mode / VGA (if you have Windows, press F8 at startup (after the BIOS)). There you should be able to change your settings
Set it for example to 800x600@60hz. And if it works, gradually increase it.

It's the 800x600 mode that crashed my computer; I wanted to improve the resolution from 1024 to 1200 but I made a mistake and here's the result!!

It's still not working!!

I restarted in safe mode, restored a good graphic resolution (1024), then I restarted my PC in normal mode, but the black screen remains!!

at how many hertz? do you have another monitor plugged in? are your drivers up to date? if so, still try uninstalling and reinstalling them.

I only have one screen connected. And where do you see the number of hertz? My drivers are up to date and it can't be that since it's a mistake here. I will try to start in VGA mode to fix it.

I understand your logic, but this was the solution for a few people who encountered this problem.
Also, you may have a control panel depending on whether you are using an Nvidia or ATI graphics card!

The error message you are getting is just due to the fact that your screen does not support the resolution you are trying to display. Furthermore, if this message occurs even at 800x600, it could potentially be related to the driver (to be confirmed in your case).

What are the specifications of your screen? For example: LG Flatron 1400x990 60Hz or 1280x1024...

No, this error only occurred in 800x600 mode. I'm posting from this PC now, and the resolutions higher than 1024x968 work great!! It must have been because those modes are too low for my screen (which is still a nearly new flat screen).

If there are any readers who have had the same problem and who tried safe mode and it still doesn't work, you need to start in VGA mode and restore the graphics resolution that was working before.
