Hello,
For the past few days, I can no longer access the "msconfig" program. A message says Windows cannot find 'msconfig'.

I am on XP Home, Internet Explorer 7

It seems to me that this issue started after the last updates. I restored to an earlier date, but nothing works.

Thanks to those who can enlighten me.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello

try this

Right-click on the workstation -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables

double-click on the PATH variable to modify it
and add this phrase to the value of the variable

;%SystemRoot%\pchealth\helpctr\binaries

with the comma of course

Hello, and thank you for your response.

I modified the PATH as you told me, but unfortunately, it didn't change anything.

I'm not completely lost because I have a small utility (a-squared hijackfree) that allows me to control the autostart.

Best regards

See you later

hello
check that the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE
contains
%systemroot%\pchealth\helpctr\Binaries\MSCONFIG.EXE

Hello and thanks to those who looked into my problem.

I managed to fix my system by performing a restore from more than a month ago.

However, your answers raised other questions for me:
- the directory c:\WINNT does not exist on my PC, where can MSCONFIG be found?
- How do I access the HKEY_LOCAL......... registry keys?

If you have the time, thanks for your answers

Best regards

See you!

start -> run -> regedit (note: !! caution !!)
and click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE as a path in the explorer.

Hi again, hello

Thanks for the information.

Now, the help function isn't working (F1 key or Start -> Help and Support)

It's fine when it works, but when it fails...

Best regards

In Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
is the Help and Support service enabled/started?

Hello,

The Help service does not exist in the list.

One question: Can we reinstall Windows without having to format the disk (in order to keep the already installed programs)?

Best regards

It is possible to download it from many websites, notably from: https://www.ldlc.com/ Once the file is downloaded, unzip it with your favorite compression/decompression utility into the C:\WINNT\system32 folder. Then, you can start msconfig normally, that is to say by typing msconfig in Start > Run.
